Overall, I think that this presentation went really well. I had prepared for it lots beforehand, like spending time ensuring that I mention everything I need to, making sure my writing is worded right and checking for spelling mistakes. I also made a brief script that I used in the presentation; this helped me stay on track, mention the most important factors on the slide and make sure I wasn’t repeating myself. I would like to think I had a good delivery in the presentation; I sounded confident in my plans and I was articulate, and I also think my ideas were quite coherent. By using all of these, I think my presentation was in-depth and well put together, however, there were other things I could have mentioned as well, like talking more about the target audience and the collaborative side of this project in more detail.
Strengths
Lewis mentioned in my feedback that my problem solving points were very important and I was the only student that mentioned the potential issue of losing files and how to restore them, and how to back up files to make sure this doesn’t happen. I think this is a huge part of being a musician as a lot of the work we do is stored online or on hard drives, so it can be easy to lose or even corrupt. So, by making sure I know how to get back lost or corrupt files, or back up pre-existing files, I can ensure my project runs smoothly and I don’t have to come across this issue. This had happened to me previously so I know from experience how important this is.
Both a tutor and some students mentioned that I have thought a lot about the promotional side of the project. Nic mentioned that using promotional things like contacting radio shows was a good way to get my name and music out to the local area, and will help me grow as an artist in the songwriting/producing industry. Tia also mentioned that my promotional ideas were great given the circumstance we are in. She said my ideas were ‘COVID friendly’; this means I will be using social media to connect with my fans, online graphics and posters instead of physical ones outside, using streaming services instead of creating physical copies to sell, and going on radio shows and contacting other media industries in the local area, which will all take place online.
All three student’s peer feedback said that I have thought lots about my context, research and evaluations as well. I know what topics I want to write about for my context to help me improve my knowledge of the genre, gather inspiration for my own songs, and see how the genre is impacting the music industry today. My research will be spread out in the project, but I still know what I want to research; I will be finding out how to improve my producing skills, like looking at tips on mixing and mastering. I will also look at how to be my own distributor and promoter so I can excel in these fields as well. My practical work will be well documented as I have made a model to use for my evaluations and I will set targets for myself. Overall, I seem very prepared for this project and have done a lot of planning ahead to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Weaknesses
Nic mentioned that in my PowerPoint, the target audience is quite vague; I could improve on this slide by mentioning what other things the target audience like enjoy other than music, where abouts my main target audience might be based, the more prominent gender of my audience, and even when they are most active on social media so I know when to post. To find all of this out, I could use things like analytics and social listening to find out more about my audience and what engagement I am getting. Obviously, this will happen after I create my accounts and start getting a bit of a following on them. I know Instagram and Facebook has its own insights and analytics page for your accounts, however, Nic also mentioned that I could use tools like Sprout Social and Mailchimp to explore my audience and help my name grow.
Some people mentioned that I am planning to do a lot of work on this project. I understand the concern and I know the responsibilities I am taking up or this project will be a lot, but I think If I stay motivated and keep on track with my worn, I will be able to get it all completed in the time we are given. Obviously, this is also just a plan, so things might change slightly to make my job a little easier. I know I can also ask for help from tutors or even peers if I need some help with my project or need information on a topic, and this will help massively. Tia mentioned that I should make a timetable for my project so I know what I am doing every week and that I can reassure myself that I can get everything done. Since I made the PowerPoint, I have made a timetable as a part of my project proposal,
As well as a target audience, looking at my feedback, I think I should have mentioned more about the collaborative side, as this is a collaborative project after all. Since making the PowerPoint, I have contacted Lucy and asked if she wanted to do some lyrics and vocals for my singles, to which she said yes! Also, she said that Meg could help her out with lyrics and harmonies as well which I was really pleased with. I asked Lucy because I think we work great together and can communicate well. We had worked previously both in project one and three and I found that we can both come up with great ideas, and our energy almost bounces off each other! Both Meg and Lucy I think can come up with some great things for these songs, so I’m really glad to have them both on board.
