Introduction

What Is The Purpose Of This project?

The purpose of this second project is to produce two compositions, both differing in style, to a high standard and professional quality. As well as this, we will learn how to use high-end production software like Logic and Sibelius which is hugely important if you are wanting to get a job in the music industry as many professional and famous producers and artists use these. Another purpose of this project is to make sure we have a good overview of music theory and know how to apply it to our compositions. This is also important as, without even a simple grasp on music theory or musical elements, we would all struggle to create music. As well as knowledge on music theory, we are also being given lessons on the modern history of music and other forms of context from the 1950s onwards. I think this is hugely important as we learn about how music today was actually inspired by music 60 or even 70 years ago and how revolutionary bands and artists influenced other things like fashion at the time.

What am I focussing on?

Looking at my feedback from project one, both my practical skills and evaluation skills were excellent. I plan to keep this up by producing compositions to a high standard and evaluating my work weekly so the process of creating my compositions is known and so I can give myself targets for the week after. By doing this, I hope to get another two excellent grades for these categories.

To improve my context and research skills from a good to excellent, I need to complete some more challenging research tasks and do the write-ups about optional tasks we were given. This so my wider reading is extensive and I know about music in wider forms. I need to make sure I give the same amount of detail that I gave in the research and context write-ups in project 1, and maybe even more so I can get the mark I am striving for.

I could also present my research and context tasks in different forms of media; not just through writing. Because I only did one of these in project one, I could do more presentations, videos or maybe even a podcast type piece where I am speaking only. I could also make my write-ups more interactive by adding helpful video links and photos, which splits up the writing and makes my work much more interesting. For my compositions, I need to make sure I turn them into audio files every time I make improvements or developments on them so the reader can also listen to my tracks to get a feel of how they sound.

To help with creating my compositions, especially the one on Sibelius, I need to make sure I improve my knowledge of music theory. I already know some music theory, rhythm in particular, but also some other things that I learnt in GCSE music. However, I feel like this field is definitely something I should be working on. I can do this by attending the music theory lessons and asking questions if I am struggling to understand things. Other than this, I need to ensure I go away from the lesson and revise what we went over to make sure it stays in my head.

Targets Overview

-Improve my context and research skills and write-ups by doing optional tasks.

-Create different types of presentations for my research, context and even evaluations so my work is not all written all the time.

-Gain knowledge on music theory and apply it to my compositions.
