Introduction

Reflecting On Project One Feedback

After reviewing and analysing my feedback from project one, I have come up with some areas for improvement. I have also looked at how I can improve on this feedback. I plan to use these as targets and apply them throughout this next project. After talking about these targets with tutors and peers, these are the improvements that I plan to make, and how.

  • Research- Make sure I improve on Harvard referencing my sources when researching. I can do this by making sure I reference the sources immediately after I put them into my work, not after I have finished everything.
  • Problem-solving- I could have documented more problems I came across in the project as there were a lot more than what appeared in my portfolio. Niall said, to work on this target, I need to make sure I remember problems I come across, how I solved them, and write this down somewhere before I forget.
  • Planning and production- Could have made a timetable at the start of the project to keep me organised and motivated. Niall said I should write down everything I want to get done at the start of the week for my portfolio so I can ensure I stay on track and meet the deadline.
  • My tutor mentioned in his feedback that I should explore more context. I could do this by perhaps looking at case studies referring to the project or providing a contextual introduction.

What is Project Two?

One half of this project is the community workshop unit. For this, we must make a detailed plan for a workshop for a group, such as a youth group, school, or mental health community. We then need to present this session to that community that is knowledgeable, interesting and engaging for every student. For us, we must act professionally throughout both the planning and delivery process, looking at the group’s requirements, how we can answer any questions we are given and solving any problems during the workshop, such as software issues or unwilling students.

To further develop your professional portfolio and performing skills throughout the year, the second part of this project is to produce a small ensemble performance that we can perform later in local schools. These will be acoustic performances and not full band, and we can incorporate both covers and original material into the set, making sure it is suitable for a young audience. We are doing this to work on our audition skills as this is a hugely prominent part of becoming a professional musician and performer after college.

At the end of this project, I hope to have a much greater understanding of community music and careers in this field as I don’t know much about this area yet. I also want to deliver a well thought out and professional workshop to a group, receiving positive feedback. Finally, I want to do a successful performance in our small ensemble groups to a school as an audience like this will be totally new to me, perhaps using some of my own original material in the set too.
