Project Evaluation

RESEARCH EVALUATION

I believe I have done a lot of research and i am happy with the research I have done. The research I have done has all been relevant to this project, one of the only things I am aware I should improve is the presentation. To improve this I need to add more pictures to my website for a more homely look. I probably could have done more live performance evaluations, but I really struggled with jazz and classical, mainly because they don’t move much or communicate. After I get feedback on my work I am going to improve all that needs improving on my website to the best standard possible.

MY PRACTICAL SKILLS

As a performer I think I did a good job playing with a band for the first time because I was able to play in time and I knew my queues very well. I also believe I did very well playing the instrument because I have never played bass before and I managed to play the songs correctly, there was definitely room for improvement on things like finger techniques and hand positions on the fret board, but I am happy with how I managed. I think one of my biggest weaknesses on stage is the lack of confidence that I have when performing, but this might be because I’ve never performed in front of a live audience. I believe my nerves will fade as I continue playing and performing music to more audiences. When I was writing my live performance page I realised I didn’t know the topic as well as I hoped I would, so next time we do anything live sound related I will record it for my own study use. I understand most of the live sound stuff that we have been taught, but there is a few more things that I need to come to grips with, such as names of equipment and how they work.

CAREER THOUGHTS

Through this project I have learnt that being a live sound engineer is not a career I would like to pursue for 2 main reasons. I am terrible at anything regarding technical things, and its a lot of pressure to make sure the sound doesn’t go horribly wrong with the feedback. I thought the mixing board was a really cool piece of equipment though because, it has the ability to control all the sound. However would definitely consider performing in front of a live audience at some point. I enjoyed performing because I really enjoy playing music, and when I am alone I can dance to music. But when me and many other people in the world are in front of an audience we feel pressured into hiding ourselves. This is the number one thing obstructing me from rocking out on stage, to beat this obstacle I need to perform when ever I can, because I need to be confident in my own skill to be confident on stage. I also need to get more confident when I am the centre of attention, because if your not use to it, it can be really scary being looked at by hundreds of eyes.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I HAVE DONE IN THIS PROJECT

Me and my band (Millie and the floor gang) only managed to perform 2 songs which were somebody that you used to know and kids, we really wanted to do we built this city as a third song but we ran out of time. This was because our group took a little longer to nail the songs to performance quality. For the performance we should have thought of a dress code earlier in the project, because then we could have any band theme we wanted. To make the project seem more professional we could have designed a band logo together or made some flyers through photo shop. There is many things we could have improved, but the mistakes we made from this project will make us better.

DID I ENJOY IT? WHAT SHOULD I IMPROVE NEXT TIME? ANY IDEAS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS?

I enjoyed pretty much everything about this project such as; learning to play as a band, performance skills, how equipment works and how to communicate as a team. Even the online written work for this project wasn’t even that bad, which is a shock as all written work I’ve done before college was boring. Next time I will be working on a piano or keyboard hopefully so I will be working at a faster pace than on the bass. But next time I will learn songs at a faster pace by practicing at home so we can perform more songs to an audience. Next time I think we professionalise or band more by making logo’s and have a band theme or dress code. I think for our next performance we should all be more active on stage by this I mean, more stage communication and movement.
