Mock performance evaluation

Individual strengths/weaknesses

It is not that audible during the performance but when I’m playing semi quavers I struggle to hit all 8 notes in the bar during the chorus. I believe this is because I am incorrectly using the finger walking technique, because my finger is meant to stop at the E string, but I try to not to touch the E string which makes my job harder. During the performance I was quite nervous about performing so naturally I tried to hide behind my instrument and look down, After watching the performance I have realised how unprofessional this looks, so for my next performance I will interact more with my band and audience. For the first song I was using my thumb to pluck the strings instead of using the finger walking technique, this is because I wasn’t confident enough with it and I was afraid I would screw up.

Band strengths/weaknesses

During the performance me and Ben were both on guitar and I have noticed we lacked stage communication which is not good for an overall performance, the singers and the drummer did a fantastic job at stage communication however the singers weren’t bad but could definitely improve in communication. They could do this by looking around more or just rocking out to the music. I believe we all played the song to a decent standard, however we did not give the audience a show at all, which can bore the audience and make the performance awkward. For both songs we played on rhythm and on time which was the thing we at first was the most worried about for the first song. Even when we screwed up individually which did happen at points through the song, we carried on so it was barley visible from the point of view of an audience. I think when you isolate us all as individuals in the band we do not have much stage presence which has to be improved on if we want to play as professional performers.

HOW WILL YOU IMPROVE?

To improve and get more confident I will play a bass at what ever chance i get to get more confident with my instrument, so I don’t have to think about hitting the notes so that I can interact with others more. To get more confident I will practice all the time with the technique, I will also correct myself on how the technique is done. To improve our stage presence we have to get confident enough in performing so we are able to forget the audience and just to feel the music flow and enjoy it. To get better at semi-quavers on the bass I need to practice them by myself, and when I get confident enough to play 8 per bar I will be ready to play them in a band.

OVERALL SUMMARY

We are almost ready for pour final performance as we have almost nailed the songs we just need that extra push to make it sound a little better and advanced. But our main issue at the moment is not the music we are playing it is our stage presence which we all need to work on. We don’t have long until our final but we are almost ready for it. The songs are already at a playable standard, so what we are doing now are little improvements to make it sound better and sharper.
