Project 2 Introduction And Project 1 Feedback

PROJECT 1

In project one we were given the task of learning a selection of songs in under 4 weeks as a band. We then has to perform the songs live. Our band performed somebody that I use to know, and kids by MGMT. I played the bass for these songs. We learnt about live sound and performing techniques throughout the project. The point of the project was to learn how to perform in front of an audience and how to work as a band. And also to learn the technical of music.

FEEDBACK

My detail in context had good detail and was very good, however it needs to be improved to get the best grade in that section. To get this grade I need to show a comprehensive understanding. To do this I need to explain everything in great detail to make sure the graders understand that I have a very good understanding. To get to this point I will explain every individual point of a topic I have been taught, with no blank lines. To make sure I am doing the explaining correctly I will get a family member to read my website and see if it makes sense.

My research was of a satisfactory standard meaning there was a lot of room for improvement. I was told that many of my links were in not accessible, leaving the grader with no source to view. To improve this I will try to make sure all of my links work so that they may view my source of information. I am also didn’t research enough topics, I only researched what I was told. I now understand to get my best grade I must research all that links to the project I am studying in great detail. To push myself to the best grade I must include Harvard referencing in my research, if I do all of this I am guaranteed a better grade.

My practical skills were of a good standard, meaning what I did was okay but needed improvement. I was good because I worked well in a team and worked positively in all sessions. I learnt the bass parts well and played with confidence. To improve I could have learnt more diffult and advanced bass parts. To do this I should have put the extra time into learning my parts so that I could learn them faster. I then could go onto more advanced playing. I also realised when I was watching the performance that I looked as if I was glued to the foundations because, my feet were not moving. My finger and hand technique could also be improved on the bass, as it was a little sloppy and unorganized on parts of the performance. This could be improved by getting more confident, so that I may focus more on the performing side of things rather than playing the instrument.

My evaluation and reflection was of good standard as I reviewed most things in good detail. However I missed things to evaluate such as the mime performance which was when we didn’t play our instruments, this was to focus on the performing side of music. I could have also talked about if I met the targets I set my self at the beginning of the project. To get the best grade in evaluation I must judge myself in critical detail, and show that I am thinking in a professional mind set while doing it.

My final performance was very good but could be improved. I performed to a good standard, I commonly interacted with the band and played my instrument almost perfectly. However my feet were not moving a lot, which made it look as if I were stuck to the floor. To improve this I will get more confident when playing and be more self conscious when performing.

For my first project at college I did very well in all aspects, there is definitely room for improvement. But this is what this evaluation is about, seeing what I did wrong and what I did right. I understand that a lot of my focus has to be on written work and also a lot has to be on performing.

TARGETS

  • to learn research more topics in great detail
  • to learn more advanced parts for my instrument next time I perform
  • Use Harvard referencing in my context
  • explain things in greater detail
  • explain how I can improve and what went well in a critical mindset (professional)
  • be more confident and self conscious when performing

PROJECT 2

In project 2 we were given the task of composing our own musical piece that will be played over a time-lapse video. The goal is to create a piece that works well with it and expresses the correct emotion of the video. We have used Beth’s theme by Olafur Arnolds as temp score which we are using as inspiration. We have been researching other composers and analysing there works. We have also been learning about music theory, chord progressions and how to learn logic and Sibelius. In music theory we have learnt about the circle of fifths, which is very complicated, but I have explained it on another page. I have consciously explained the circle in great detail to boost up my research and context grades. I am also going to research as many different composers and compositions as possible to get a batter grade in research. And every page I do, I want to be in great detail to show my depth of understanding. If I complete everything in time I will go over all my pages with Harvard referencing for a better grade. To evaluate myself I will walk through everything I have done on my composition on a weekly basis, this will show my development and give me time to think about what I want to do next with my composition.
