Aims and Objectives

AIM: For my final project I am aiming to facilitate the music and foley to a student video game that is in development.

OBJECTIVES:

Context and Research

-I am going to complete this aim through completing extensive research into; music composition and developing video game music so that I develop a greater understanding around how to professionally and effectively compose original music.

-To understand how to input music into Unity/Unreal Engine via ; Wwise, Unreal Engine blueprints and editing sound through Izotope RX. Understanding how to import and edit your own sounds and music into game engines is a very important skill in the video game music industry, therefore understanding these topics when getting a career in the video game music industry is vital.

– I am going to use a wide range of relevant and current research formats such as; books, journals, videos and music to improve the variety and quality of information I obtain through my research.

-I will research into foley and field recordings to ensure I know what I am doing when it comes to recording my own foley after my research.

-If the video game suits the use of synthesisers in the instrumental arrangement I will do thorough research into synthesis and sound design so that I may build my own synth patches from scratch.

Practical Work

-The music composed during this project will be made on Logic Pro X as this is the DAW I am most comfortable and familiar with, working on a software you are comfortable with is very important when trying to maintain an effective workflow.

-To improve the quality of the final musical product I will try and get real instruments recorded into the track (e.g. strings, drums, guitar, brass), this will make the music sound more lifelike and professional.

-I will develop professional and accurate musical notation of my video game score to hand out to instrumentalists during recording sessions.

-I will plan at the end of each session what I want to accomplish in the up coming session, so that I am confident in what I am doing the next day. This will avoid me wasting time trying to find out what I should do next, overall allowing me to be more effective in managing my time.

-I will plan field recordings throughout this project in order to record the foley and sound effects for the video game.

Reflection and Evaluation

-I will communicate on a regular basis with the game developer to ensure they are happy with the development of the game music in relation to the game. I will try and organise meetings on Teams so that we can help each other and give each other feedback.

-To improve my practical work I will do weekly self reflections on my work, this will help me understand what is going well in my project and what needs to be improved.

-I will use a reflection cycle to give my reflections to have a organised and detailed structure to follow.

-I will ask for peer reflection on my music to see how it sounds from a public point of view, hearing the feedback will allow me to know where to improve my work. I will get peer feedback through posing my progress on social media platforms and stating that I am open to feedback, acting on the feedback I receive will help me improve the quality of the music I am composing.

Presentation

-My music will be presented in the finalised product of the video game, allowing to people experience music in the context it was made for.

-The music will also be posted on Soundcloud, Youtube and Spotify for people to listen to without having to play the game. This will make my music more accessible to the public, the music will be accompanies by digital artwork to make it look professional and atheistically pleasing.

-I will get digital art work developed for online promotion and the thumbnail of my published music, this could be developed either by my sister or a digital design student.

-I will promote the progress of my project on social media, this may cause members of the public to become interested in the project.
