For this ensemble performance we had to gather various resources in order to learn our set list, this is because no one is our band do not has perfect pitch which enables them to learn songs fluently by ear. Therefore we had to look around the internet for different chord tabs for each individual song, these tabs are what we learnt our songs from as it taught us the chords, lyrics and structure of the song. All of our chord tabs were found and used on the website www.ultimate-guitar.com. It was important when learning a new song that we were using the same tab, otherwise one of the different tabs could be out of key leading to a song full of clashing and dissonant notes. We also had to make sure that the tab was in a key that was comfortable with the singer, otherwise they might struggle to sing it which could lead to them straining and damaging their vocal cords. Straining vocal cords is neither healthy for a singer nor does it sound good to the audience, therefore it was best we avoided causing damage to singers vocals by picking a key that was fine for everyone. I will list down below all of the resources that we used to learn our song for the performance. Millie (our singer) did not use tabs as she is not an instrumentalist, therefore I will also link below lyrical resources that she may be able to use for the school performance.
Ultimate Guitar Tabs
Tabs is a great website to learn chords as it is very simple to understand, this is because it tells you when to play your chords with the lyrics in an easy to understand format. For example all the lyrics will be written down on the website and every so often you will see a chord name (example C major) hovering above a lyric. This is the website telling you to play the c major chord when the singer is singing that lyric, therefore the website tells you when to play your chords making it very easy. Tabs also makes it easy to transpose the chord tab between instruments , this is because it will have an instrument button which will change the chord arrangement for different instruments. The biggest difference between instruments on this website is that guitars need capos which impacts the chord arrangement on the webpage, which overall makes the chords look completely different. However both instruments will still have chord tabs which are in the correct key and sound great, assuming you are on the same tab.
