Social Media Promotion
This is the first form of promotion I have released for this final project. I decided to not reveal too much about the project through this post, as this makes people curious about the project furthermore encouraging them to follow me to learn more from future posts. Hence why I uploaded a screenshot of the project and a caption saying ‘coming soon….’, the lack of information given allows me to capture peoples interest in the account and keep an eye on my work. Through my research on social media marketing I learned that posts with hashtags receive over 12% more engagement, therefore to make my post more popular tagged my post to as many relevant topics I could think of. This technique was not very successful as it received 14 likes in a week, however I believe this was not the fault of the marketing strategy but my low follower count. This makes my account less likely to be seen due to the low amount of followers, however this post did grant me 4 followers in a week. Therefore with more frequent uploads to my account I believe I would slowly gain a larger following, furthermore making my promotion more likely to be successful. In this post I also included a location tag, as through my research I also learned that a location tag gives your post 79% more engagement on instagram. Therefore I included location tag of the city I live in (Bradford), therefore making the probability of my post being seen by the public more likely. Overall this post was not very successful, as it gained few likes and most of the likes where friends and family meaning it did not reach a new audience. However I believe the failure of this post was caused by my infrequent upload schedule which makes the account appear inactive, therefore to improve my promotion in the future I will make more consistent uploads.
This is the second post I have made for my promotion of this project, in this post I decided to give my followers some more insight into what I am working on. I did this my posting a short clip of the gameplay and music synced together, for this post I decided to use the triumphant music near the end of the video as I am most proud of this section of music within my composition. Therefore I posted this hoping the high quality of music would engage some listeners in my work and follow me due to high quality of music they have heard. After the triumphant build up in the music however the music starts to turn sinister due to the plot twist in the game when the monster comes back after defeating it, I did not want to spoil this plot twist before the full release of my project online. Therefore I cut off the music just before this happens, also making people more curious about what happens next.
Just like in my first post I tagged the upload with hashtags and a location to make it more likely to reach a wider audience online. This was a lot more successful than my last post as I gained 7 followers from this one post within 7 days, meaning I gained an average of one follower per day.
After the Bradford College showcased I planned on releasing my music on Instagram and YouTube the day after, however I was struggling to get a hold of my tutor who had access to the mastered file of my music which I was going to upload. This lead to a delayed release, to make sure my followers were informed of this issue I made this post on my story. Furthermore this shows great attention and dedication to your online following, by keeping them in the loop with your project updated. Therefore showing great professionalism when it comes to online promotion.
During the mock performance of the final showcase I recorded a clip of my gameplay footage with the intention of using it as promotion, furthermore building up anticipation within my followers for the release of my final project. This was successful as someone commented ‘Sounds Great’, this gave me a lot of confidence in showcasing my composition as this showed me that people were enjoying the music I shared. I also included many hashtags relating to my project and the showcase in attempt to reach a larger audience, this was successful as the video gained 35 views and increased my following by 5 people.
Once I finally has my project released I updated my instagram story, in this story I uploaded a clip of my music to capture people’s interest in the music project. I also informed them of where they can watch the full video, with a caption saying “I would really appreciate it if you could check it out”. This is very polite and does not pressure people into watching it, furthermore encouraging them to watch the video in order to support me due to my friendliness online. This was successful as everyone that watched the story ended was also in the viewing list for my final project video, therefore in future I will keep using this technique on my page for promotion.
Promotion Summary
In conclusion this promotion was not successful in comparison to my promotion on past projects, as in my last final project my video gained over 90 views me the time of the deadline, however this time around I have not reached 35 views. However to have avoided this issue I could have promoted my project consistently throughout my project, which would help me gradually build up a larger following in time for the release of the gameplay and music. However I will keep on promoting my music past the deadline in order to professionally develop my musical portfolio and gain a larger following. Furthermore this will all me to promote more professional future products on a larger more effective promotional scale.
