For my final project of this year I am going to be composing an original soundtrack for a student video game, I believe spending time developing music for a brand new video game will help improve my compositional skills when creating my own music in the future. Another reason why I wanted to do this for my final project is because I would like to make a career in composing music for films and video games. I think this project would help prepare me for a future in the music industry, as the challenges I will face will help me enhance the skills I need to be a composer for video games. During this project I will compose all of my music on Logic Pro X as this is the DAW I am most comfortable and familiar with. To succeed in this project I will need to use skills I have acquired from my time on the course such as; sound design, collaboration, organisation and composing and arranging skills. Collaboration is going to be a huge element of my final project as I will have to communicate with the video game director on a regular basis to ensure that they are happy with the music I have composed in relation to the video game they are making.
The style and genre of the music I am making depends completely on the video game I am going to be composing for. This is because every video game title has the music adapted to fit the theme and setting of the video game. For example a medieval video game will have music that fits the medieval time era of music by using instruments such as lutes and harps. This is because these instruments were available during this time era, which creates a natural blend between the audio and visual stimuli of the video game. During this project I will try my best to get real instruments recorded into Logic so that it sounds more realistic when it is a finished product, however I may struggle to get instruments such as strings and woodwinds played into Logic as I do not know any players that will do this for free. Over the time span of the final project I will be doing research in order to help me counter issues I may face and learn about topics I am inexperienced in. A few topics I am going to research for this project are; the process of video game development, how to establish yourself as a video game composer and guides to synthesis and sound design. I believe all these topics will help me throughout this final project, therefore I believe it is very important to understand them in order to create a professional sounding video game soundtrack.
-if no student is developing a game I will compose music for an already esisting game of my choice
-I will promote my music by sharing my progress on social media platfroms such as: instagram and tiktok. I will upload updates every week to inform the public of my progress and advertise the game online.
-The music will be presented inside the final student video game. I will also publish the tracks as a stand alone piece of music on soundcloud and youtube with digital artwork accompanying it.
