This is a piece of footage captured of my mock performance on the 16th of May, this mock performance was not very successful for a number of reasons. One being that the video game audio was not playing along side the music, furthermore making the music sound isolated from the game. This is only a technical issue and can be fixed easily before the performance, to solve this issue I am going to talk to my tutor who mastered the track and inform him about the issue. He can then get this fixed. I am aware that not all the time will I have someone to solve these issues for me, therefore in the future I will learn to identify the specific problems and fix them myself.
A side from that technical issue, all the other problems were caused my lack of confidence when presenting my project on screen, as I failed to mention many details about what my project is and where they can find it. Therefore before the final showcase I will make brief notes on what I want to say on stage about my project and elaborate on them when talk in front of the audience. Some things I want to talk about is; where they can find the music, what is going on in the context of the games story and also my inspirations. One other final problem I encountered was laughing on stage which pressurised me into rushing my presentation speech, this is because my class mates where laughing of about how I walked on stage. In a professional environment you would be wanted to professionally conduct yourself into delivering a high quality and detailed speech under large amounts of pressure. I am not used to speaking in front of crowds, which is why I think these presentation errors occurred. Therefore to get better at presenting my work I will perform in front of large crowds in gigs and events to make myself used to standing in front of crowds, which will furthermore make me a more confident presenter.
However one way my project was successful during the mock showcase was that it was well received by my peers who had not heard my music before, furthermore I am now more confident about performing in front of an audience as I believe it will be liked by many.
This is footage shows me presenting my project in the dress rehearsal before the final showcase, this went much better than the mock on the 16th. This is first of all because the sound effects from the game where fixed and put along side the music, furthermore making it sound more blended and natural with the music over the gameplay. My presentation skills where also much better than there were in the mock, as I talked more about my project and mentioned what is going on in the gameplay from a narrative perspective. This allows people to put the music in context with the levels significance in the game, furthermore helping them understand the purpose of the music. My stage presence in was also improved since the mock as I did not rush my speech and I also spoke in a calm and professional manor, speaking with confidence during a performance is very important as it makes the audience believe you are confident in your own skills. Furthermore making them build up anticipation into watching your project. I also said ‘I hope you enjoy’ which shows kindness and sincerity to the audience, also making them like you as a performer as well as your music. Furthermore potentially encouraging to follow you due on social media and listen to your music due to your like-ability.
One thing I noticed that could be improved would be to be more calm on stage, as in my voice you can hear a bit of shaking due to my nerves on stage. This is not something I can change 0ver night, as I have discussed in my previous rehearsal footage in order to improve my confidence and reduce my nerves on stage I must perform more frequently to get used to performing on stage. As side from this small area for improvement I believe this dress rehearsal was very successful and huge improvement from my mock performance.
The video above shows my project and me presenting it to a live audience during my final showcase, overall I think this was less successful than the dress rehearsal performance. One thing that was less successful than the mock was that I rushed my presentation leading to me missing many details I wished to talk about, this was rushed as I was very nervous being in front of a large crowd which is what let me down. One thing I failed to mention was the context behind the level and what the story of the game is, this could have lead to confusion for the audience as they did not understand what is going on in the story of the game. When I got up to the microphone on stage I began to fidget with my shirt due to my nerves, this is visible to the audience it shows my lack of confidence on stage which is not good for a musician. As seen in all three of these videos like of confidence is a reoccurring theme. Furthermore the main thing I need to improve in my future for the music industry is having confidence in my own skill and in front of a crowd, which I have mentioned before can be solved by putting my self in front of more crowds (gigs).
Despite the many things that could be improved there is still many things that went well, the main thing that went well was that the audience enjoyed the music as they all clapped. I am very happy that people enjoyed my project, as I was worried parents and older people in the audience would not like it due to their generation typically not playing video games. Another thing that went well was that when I walked on stage at the start and end I appeared very confident as I walked tall and without hesitation, this appears very confident and professional to the audience therefore making them have trust in my skills. One of the final things that went well during this speech and presentation was that I spoke more confidently when I came back on stage by discussing more. One thing I talked about was where to find my released video and when it would be released, which was something I neglected to mention in the previous rehearsals.
In summary I am happy with how the video footage was showcased, this because the quality of the video and production was very high, furthermore making the presentation look very professional. However to improve this presentation I would have liked to talk more about my project, so that the audience understand more about the context of my project and where to find it online.
