Marketing Plan Dan

FEEDBACK:

My feedback was mainly all to do with the timing of things;

  • Timescale: I need to work out an appropriate timescale in which I want to achieve my goals in order to help me reflect on the rate of progress I am am making. This could be yearly goals perhaps, as this will allow me to see how I am progressing in my career.
  • Having various students play monthly could potentially be too overbearing for them as they are learning, so I think it will be a better idea to host two to three large music events a year where everyone can have a chance to play, and also have much more time to prepare.
  • Finding time to fit in things like YouTube alongside playing live regularly will be a task, therefore I need to Work on being able to balance my time, or perhaps re-think using YouTube as a promotional tool. I am going to give YouTube a go as it’s something I have been interested in for some time now anyway, but if it doesn’t really work for me I will likely just stop using it for this.
  • I need to make sure I have relevant and interesting content on a regular basis to upload onto social media platforms. It’s no good uploading regularly if the content isn’t relevant.

Going off of this feedback I am going to make some improvements. Firstly, I am setting the timescale of my marketing plan to regular three month intervals. So what this means is that while my marketing and promotion plan will be used regularly, I will be evaluating my progress and hopefully improving on my methods at these intervals. Another improvement to the timescale of things I am making is my schedule of uploading content online. I plan on at least making one post a week as this will be enough to keep me in my audience’s minds, but not too much that people get sick of seeing so many posts. This also provides me with enough time to create interesting and relevant content to post, which I think will be much more effective. The final change in regards to timescale I have made is the frequency of the student shows that I host. I have now settled for a large summer show, and a large winter/christmas show. this gives plenty of preparation time for my students, and it allows me to have every one of my students perform at these shows. As a bit of a side project, I also host a live music night once a moth that helps promote local talent, and this also provides opportunity for students to play more regularly should they want to do so.

I have decided to scrap the idea of using YouTube as a promotional platform. This is because I don’t think it is very affective at doing this task, and also it takes up a large portion of time if you want to produce high quality content. If I decide to do any live video recordings, these will be posted on social media platforms instead.

One final thing that I have done to improve my plan is that I have finished my website. I am aware that this isn’t the most effective tool for actively promoting myself on, however I really think it goes a long way in making me look far more professional as a independent musician. I think that my plan is more refined now, and much more achievable than before. If any changes need to be made in future I will be able to identify this and act on it thanks to the new timescale that I have worked out.

Here’s two of the sites I used when researching effective promotional techniques:

Most of the info I needed I had already learned about in previous assignments, but these sites had a good few points for me to take on board.
