Initial Planning

Now we could start to make a plan.

First off, we needed to find a suitable charity to raise money for, so as a group we did some research on the Internet and eventually came across a charity called “Lost Chord.” This was the charity we eventually settled on supporting as they go around the country visiting elderly people homes to play music for people suffering from dementia, so it is music related, and a few of us have family members or know people who suffer from dementia, therefore we felt it was a good charity to support.

Next we needed to decide on a date, location, and a target audience. This didn’t take too long as we quickly decided (with guidance from our tutor) that Tuesday the 17th of October was a suitable date as it gave enough time for the bands to prepare, and enough time to write up our portfolio work afterwards.

For the venue, we decided to use the Henry Mitchell Hall. This is because it is actually a part of one of the college buildings so it didn’t cost anything to use, and it is an appropriately sized venue with a big stage and a very good sound and lighting system already installed.

As for our target audience, there weren’t really many limits; the event was open to everyone of all ages that wanted to come listen to some live music and support a charity.

We also needed to create a name for the event, so we decided to keep it simple and call it “BCM Charity Gig”

In addition to all of this, we needed to work out a ticket price. after debating this for a while, we came to the conclusion that the set pric should be £5.00 for adults, and £2.50 for under 16’s. this would be a reccomendation however, so that you can donate however much you want to the cause.
