Analysis
For the first 5 seconds there is a footstep rhythm that I need to replicate. On top of this there is a small amount of ambience with features light wind that slightly intensifies and decreases throughout this part of the game. Then after this there is a spike of intensity after the clarec beast enters the scene this intensity is used to add a sort of jumpscare as this easily fits the setting and will keep the player on the edge of there seat for the rest of the game as this is the introductory bossfight that is at the beginning of the game.
The beast entry
When the beast enters the scene there is a powerful raw/screech sound that provides the beast with ferocity and helps to solidify its role as a stronger enemy that the player needs to defeat. This is complemented with a large impact sound that allows for the sound designer to show that this is a larger foe for the player to take on whilst also giving the beast an intimidating figure that works well for the scene.
This is repeated throughout the fight with things like large jump sound with great importance to give the beast both weight and power whilst still driving that strong intense feel that the complementing music gives off for the rest of the bossfight. There is also slashing/stabbing sounds involved within this timeframe these sounds work well for this type of weapon because it is a sawblade so there is a slight gore and metallic aspect to this that is mixed on top of a medium impact sound this could potentially be a good example of a multi-tracked sound that uses multiple layers to achieve a stronger more aggressive sound to sell the player on the fact that his is both a light weapon that can still do a moderate amount of damage also during this part of the video there is a heavy attack that is used this can be easily pointed out by the slight ding that is heard to complement the charging animation of the player. I think this is a good way to indicate this as it doesn’t take away from the weapon just being a saw and still gives clear indication that the weapon is charged also during this process there is both more screams/roars that can be heard from the beast whilst interweaving this with destruction of the surroundings giving a large amount of impact sounds that give intensity. I think that this is good because it shows more intensity but I do think this would have benefited from slightly less gain in the mix because I think it makes the objects sound sound similar to the beast this may be distracting as this would imply that the beast and the stationery surroundings that are smaller than the beast are the size mass wise. I also think because these impact sounds are all very similar in volume this makes them all seem alike this makes the surrounding feel really similar and once again could be potentially distracting to the player finally later in the video there is a special attack used known as a visceral this attack has its own distinct sound design to show the importance of the attack this also comes wit hits own sound design Q before the attack that allows for the player to know of the opportunity. I think this sound fits the theme of the game and easily noticeable as a prompt for a stronger attack for the attacks sound design itself I think that it works well as it provides a choir like sound behind it to give it extra weight this works from a gameplay design and fits well in to the theming and lore of the game and works well for the attack although this sound is not a original sound and is a stock sound effect used among many horror games and films this might make it distracting for some players if this is heard and is recognisable form elsewhere
How I would improve this
I would improve this by adding more ambience to the beginning with potentially bird sounds and water sounds to build a more alive setting to the setting I would also take in to consideration the criticism I have given in the analysis to give a more refined sound to the game I have started this process by recording footsteps in the studio alongside guitar and cymbal sounds to allow me to have more ambience in the final track.
