My Musical Inspiration

The playlist

Why these songs

These songs provide me with a solid range of compositions. I also think these compositions will fit the theme of the boss as they are both atmospheric and powerful. As-well as this these songs allow me to give a range of points of analyses for this composition.

the first song – Black Sabbaths Black sabbath

The reason i picked this song was because of its amalgamation of ambience and sound with the main instrumental that was the beginning of heavy metal. This song includes the ominous interval known as the tritone that was for a long time banned from musical composition as it was referred to as the devils interval this was due to its less whole sound this creates a horrifying atmosphere that is only increased by Ozzy’s trembling vocals that really sell the concept of the songs darker meanings and horrifying origins

The second song – metallic’s one

this song is a ballad that allows for a strong instrumental that once again has a strong sound orientated intro that allows for me to draw more ideas of how sound can be weaved into the overall project and composition and how it can avoid from taking away from the main song this song also features a large amount of temp shifts like the the break in to the third verse after the chorus that creates some highly powerful intensity that allows for a stronger resolve to a greater build that the song provides.

The third song – avenged sevenfold life is but a dream

This piece is a full piano instrumental that has a really large sound this is what i would like to replicate for the composition as i think elements of this could add more overarching power to the song to give a greater strength to the ins mental whilst still allowing for some harmonic arts of the composition that will be added to the project

Song 4 Black sabbaths Behind the wall of sleep

for this track the main inspiration is the strong backbeat from the drums and i also draw inspiration for the panning and doubling effect on Ozzy’s vocals to give a stranger feel to the track this is easy to notice throughout the entire song and is a clear example of what i would like to achieve for the production side of the composition this will need to be balanced with tin tensity of the sound design elements to not seem overly distracting and to keep a attention on the gameplay and not just the music

Song 5 METALWINGS – crying of the sun

this song has the vocal style i would like to have in the final composition this style provides intensity whilst still not being the main theme of the track on this track thee is two singers i will focus on more of the operatic tide of the vocals for the composition this will also potently allow me to have some familiarity to the original as in the original theatre is a large amount of orchestral/operatic type vocals also in this track there a powerful violin part that is present throughout the track this will be my inspiration for the string sounds in my composition to give a grander feel to the composition

Song 6 SIE sound team – Lullaby for mergo

this track only features one instrument this gives a almost lifeless feeling to this track. This emptiness gives the track such a different feel this fits the theme of the sound this composition is used twice in the entire game as a degree of foreshadowing the main instrument in this is a celeta to make a almost rattle sound combined with a keys sound from a piano this hollowness perfectly reflects the setting as the boss is completely emotionless and lacks any degree of humanity in the fight

Song 7 Elvis Presly – An American Trilogy

this song is mainly based off of the commentary of war and follows the story of a soldier going to war. This song contains many instruments like a French horn a clarinet and a drum kit these instruments give a great range of dynamics that i can draw inspiration from for my final composition i also can use this same idea of dynamics in sound design to create a more dynamic sound and it will give the track more power and will make the instrumental seem effective

song 8 – Phill Collins – in the air tonight

this song draws inspiration for this project for the same reason as the last song its great range of dynamics and resolve for the tentation built in the track with the grand drum fill that is verry recognizable for the song this makes this heavier and gives the song a verry strong build up in this track i also think this is important for giving a diverse range of sources for musical inspiration for my composition I think for my performance i will try to avoid sounds that sound to digital this is because i think this will take away from the setting

Song 9 Spiritbox caller door

i have picked this song because It is so sudden and intense this intensity is what i would like to do for the final composition this song also keeps the intensity going without having to add a large amount of instruments this could be something i keep in mid for my composition this is because of the time element of this project i think it could allow for a faster and more efficient creation process overall
