recording

Please excuse my language on the videos, I didn’t have time to edit it out.

These two videos were recording practice for before I went into the studio this helped with recording due to knowing how fast I needed to play with the click track and where I’d need to change over for the lead guitar.

  • I decided on a good tone – that had distortion to make the track more rocky and heavy instead of clean.
  • I was consistent – playing this helped me in the studio when recording because it meant I’d make less mistakes due to hours and hours of practice.
  • I had confidence in playing – this was important to develop because if I didn’t have confidence playing I would mess the whole recording up due to petty mistakes and imperfections.

I need to rehearse lead more for playing confidently in the studio so I don’t mess up when recording and means I won’t have to spend as long with the lead recording.

  • I was feeling more relaxed while playing (good confidence) – this helped in the studio because I wasn’t as stressed out as I would have been if I had minimal practice when recording.
  • I was playing with minimal mistakes – this helped in recording because it meant I could spend less time perfecting it because it was already at a good level for recording.

I still just need to practice going into lead and coming out of it – doing this helped when recording because it meant I knew where the lead parts where going to start and where they needed to finish.

I need to practice recording drums more because my consistency without recording is better than when I’m properly recording. I play better when I’m not recording due to lack of stress and knowing that it needs to be perfect or I won’t use it (because I’m a perfectionist) so in the future I’m going to spend time just learning how to record drums more confidently and relaxed with minimal stress.

I need to not drop my sticks when recording and to have a tighter grip on them because it throws me off completely when recording meaning we have to do a complete new take because I dropped them.

I was still variating, trying to make it easier to play – I could have done this during rehearsals to make my life easier but I had time to spare so I thought I’d try it, ended up going with the original idea anyway.

I need to pick one way to play the song instead of varying it during the recording process because then it’s to late to change it if I don’t like it.

I also need to work on my fill consistency to make sure I play them 100% accurately instead of messing them up in recording.

I was tired but still going for it – having persistence really paid off because I got the drums finished before lunch meaning I had all afternoon to work on the rest of my song.

This was not the most accurate but good for first time recording bass – this boosted my confidence a bit because I thought it was going to be terrible but it wasn’t which I am super proud of.

I need to be careful with fret buzz – need to make sure I’m not forcing the strings too hard, causing fret buzz and to play lighter on the bass instead of full on.

I experienced a bit of hesitation but this is better by the last take because of my persistence to get the job done.

I made some mistakes with lead but I went over and over with it to get it right and noted feedback when listening back this helped with the recording further on because I knew what mistakes I were making and could perfect it in the studio.

I was actively reflecting on mistakes to make sure I wouldn’t continue making them.

I noodled a bit so need to focus but was getting irritated at that point which didn’t help when recording because I started to rush it and I just wanted it to be perfect but I’m not the best guitarist in the world or even the college so I got what I got and moved on

I was still eager to get a good take though – persistence was a huge part of recording in the studio because if I wasn’t persistent I would get frustrated and want to give up so tried to keep a positive attitude. I finally got a good take, super accurate and perfect for the final recording,
