mixing in logic

todays lesson was about adding reverb and compression to a song recorded by some students from last year

audio track from sex on fire that a class recorded for us to mix

we’ve started mixing and mastering our own projects from last term adding in reverb compression this is to make sure nothing bleeds in to each other and the tracks aren’t to loud and sound like there in a live setting instead of being a recording.

this project is called footsteps and it was produced by me cameron Rhodes and Kaitlyn Ashworth

a photo of the project being colour coded so I know which parts to work on.

I started off adding reverb to the drums on the track but not to much so it didn’t cause the track to sound really echoey with everything going on but to also make it sound like your in the same room as the kit whilst it was being played.

a photo of the reverb options on the kick drum to show how much reverb was used during the mixing process.

I also added reverb to the lead guitar part to make it sound like it was further away than the rhythm guitar in the chorus to add texture to the track instead of it being really basic and sounding like the guitar is really dead with zero tone.

a photo of the reverb options on the lead guitar to give it that distant feeling

I also added reverb on the clean and distorted guitar that was recorded in two different tracks because I couldn’t get my head around having to use a foot pedal whilst recording.

this is the finished track of footsteps which was a collaborative project with me, Cameron, Kaitlyn and Evan(who is our music technician) . the aim of the project was to create mix and master a midwest emo track within the time limit we we’re set so we spent last project writing the song and this project mixing and mastering.
