Ableton Live composition

this is my level 2 Ableton live composition page for Bradford college school of art.

here are some screenshots of the work we’ve been doing during our lessons with our tutor lewis

this screenshot shows the melody line for the guitar for my composition that we have been working on today for the lesson. I also structured my bass part round the same notation but within a different patten.

this shows the bass part that I came up with for my composition for the lesson it was simple and catchy and went well with the drums and guitar

this is the drum track I came up with at the start of the lesson. it sounds quite catchy and fits in to the genre which is rock. I had the beat stuck in my head so I thought it would be useful to get I’t placed into a track somewhere.

this is the session view it shows us what parts we’ve made for the composition

I’ve updated my project and changed half of the work I’ve done last week

here are the screenshots from today

I added a piano part around the rhythm of the drums so it fit into my project

I changed the bass part to fit with the new piano part I created so It also fit with my project and had short notes to cause suspense.

I also removed the guitar part because it no longer fit within m project with it due to it being in a different key.

this is what I have of my track so far still need to add the choruses and a second verse which I have an idea for to carry on the track

the guitar, drums and bass all work together with it being an alternative rock composition . I came up with the idea for the drums as I walked into lesson so I guess it was just spur of the moment.

this is a screen shot showing my use of automation within the volume of the tracks for the final step of my project.

this is the final result of my Ableton live track.

I think the project went well due to me knowing how to use Ableton this year than last year and knowing how to record tracks in and use automation and effects to make it sound better than just the instruments by itself.

I think I need to work on my timing whilst playing to click due to it feeling like its falling out of time with the lead guitar and i also need to learn to listen back to what was played due to me messing up the lead towards the end and only just realising I messed up during my write up

I think I did well with this project due to learning how to use Ableton last year helped massively this term with knowing how to record tracks in and how to use to different sounds on the software to create a track and even using plug-ins for my drums and guitar because they didn’t have any that I liked on the software.

I think I should work on my use of time on the software compared to others and learn how to use others such as logic because they differ from one another with Ableton being looping software and logic being a recording software.

In a whole I think my Ableton composition went well with my time management for this project being better than the other two due to the knowledge I have on Ableton compared to. logic.
