researching is in my opinion the most critical point of script writing so everything is factually correct and backed by multiple source’s. according to Hull University, “it shows that you have understood the information and are able to express it in your own writing style”.
Listening To Podcasts
before writing my script I searched for some podcasts that interested me, and I found ‘Maintenance Phase” by Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes. This particular Podcasts drew my attention because it debunks “junk science behind health fads, wellness scams and nonsensical nutrition advice”, according to there Spotify description.
From listening to a few of there episodes, I liked there conversational style, and found myself not just listening for college research but because I was genuinely interested in listening to there exiting interpretation off what many would consider boring topics. This led me to a site which explained the science of why I was drawn to this particular style so much. This story from the American Psychological Association highlights how conversational speaking holds “immense power”. A section of this podcast witch I found particularly useful in research was that the most important part of conversation is “aligning our brains so that we can be on the same page,” said Thalia Wheatley, PhD. From reading this I realised that my podcast had to be open for the listener to from their personal opinions, and limiting my own. This would make the listeners feel as if they are building more of a narrative for them selves and formulating there own opinions based on the facts I provide, this means there more likely to remember the context of the podcast and in the scenario that I realised more episodes it would increase the return listeners.
Podcast Tips
Being completely unknowlagable in podcast production, I decided it would be important to lean from more experienced profecinals. David Temple, experienced author with over 26 years in the TV and radio industry, released an article in 2022 about what he’s learnt from his podcast ‘THE THRILLERZONE“.
One of his tips is to prioritise being organised, this includes proper promotion, this could include physical flyers to hang up in high traffic arias. This brings all kind of new audiences that will have never heard of you beforehand because online algorithms often prevent advertising from reaching different demographics without spending huge amounts. This does not mean that it wouldn’t also be a good ides to create online accounts where people can quickly find out if there interestied in your content without having to listen to a podcast intro, witch will improve viewer retention witch will mean the podcast is more likely to be pushed to more people.
It’s also important to be personally prepared, this is extremely important and needs to be implemented from the writing process all the way till uploading. When writing I plan to have a scedual of deadlines I have to meet, and ensure my laptop is charged and ready to write as well as saving all sources I use in the process to later reference in the podcast to show legitimacy.
