For our first ever session together as a band we spent about half an hour on choosing a song that we could all get behind (as we all have a range in music taste.) It was a little tricky for every one to be alright with the songs we had chosen but after a while we just cracked on.
Hey! – Pixies. We decided on this song because it didn’t seem super hard for us all to collaborate and we could all agree the bass line is absolutely beautiful. This song is used in the credits of a popular scary movie called Fear Street so we figured people would know it even if they didn’t know the band. its not too hard in vocals or instruments and its nice on the ears.
First we looked into the song Hey! by Pixies. Our first approach was to spend like 8 minutes on listening to the song and looking at tabs and tutorials, we then just tried to get started and ran into our first problem to tackle. That problem being the bass seems like it comes in at a random time at first look and Ellie was struggling with the timings so we counted it out and realised the first bass note is on the 1 after the first lyric (the first note on a fresh bar. Once Ellie spent some time with the bass line and didn’t give up she was started to get it in the end and we started moving at some good pace putting some impressive motion on the first rehearsal session.
I picked up the guitar part rather quick or the rhythm section any way and just cracked on with fitting the guitar in with Jasmine’s vocals on the intro which didn’t take us too long. I am not going to be able to do all the lead parts as there would be no rhythm support from any other instrument with chords so it would sound rather empty which is not cool. I feel I did well keeping Ellie determined and not letting her give up which led her to sticking to it and figuring the bass intro out. theres is 4 different rhythm sections to learn and I learnt 3 of them in this session
