Assessment

Context – Excellent – I believe I have demonstrated ample knowledge of the processes involved in undertaking such a project, and I have managed to relate that knowledge to future projects, both in employment and education.

Research – Good – I completed a lot of worthwhile research and utilised my findings throughout the project, however, I didn’t evidence this as well as I could’ve done. There are instances where I researched something and simply let the source go without noting it down. This is something I need to cut out in future work at university-level.

Problem Solving – Excellent – Throughout this experience I had to show my ability to problem-solve when faced with quite large challenges. Thanks to the preparation and research, I had assistance when it came to finding solutions, but there were many instances where I was faced with something totally unexpected and had to resolve the issue creatively.

Planning and Production – Good – I took care in my planning to ensure I had what I believed to be realistic expectations. Whilst these initial plans weren’t quite what they should’ve been, I believe I did well to quickly adapt these plans and, throughout the production of my guitar and accompanying film, I continued to evaluate the remaining timetable and what could be achieved, adjusting plans where I saw fit. I showed great dedication to this project and put countless hours of thought into every stage.

Practical Skills – Excellent – Despite every stage of this project consisting of mostly unfamiliar processes, I showed great aptitude in every aspect. I quickly gained the required woodworking skills in the construction phase and I stepped into the editing phase as a beginner to leave as an intermediate-level editor with a strong showing for a first documentary.

Evaluation and Reflection – Excellent – Video evaluations worked very well for me during this project, I felt more comfortable and I believe that allowed me to, more honestly, showcase my reflections and evaluations. These thoughts were put forward in a way true to myself; I was clear and intentional about what I wanted to evaluate and I was direct about how these evaluations were going to impact the project. I evaluated more than I had anticipated, and I think that gave me further room to consider what actions I would take and how to best approach the project.

Presentation – Good – Producing a documentary film was a brilliant choice as it allowed me to showcase the hard work that went into the project, as well as providing me with another product to take away with me. The documentary turned out better than I had imagined and I am incredibly proud of the end result. What stops me from giving myself an “excellent” is my showing at the final performance, Amplified. I wasn’t as prepared as I should’ve been and the snippet I showed wasn’t edited how it should’ve been. Small details but they are important.

I confirm that the attached assessment is all my own work and does not include any work completed by anyone other than myself and sources have been appropriately referenced.
