Podcast Production

Task 1 research

I have watched a podcast from a Youtube channel called ImPaulsive which is hosted by YouTuber Logan Paul where he talks to John Cena.

The format of the podcast is conversational and the style of the podcast is in formal.

The target audience for this podcast could be for young children and teenagers who are fans of John Cena and also for people who grew up in the early 2000’s watching John Cena. The interview is mostly focused about John Cena’s career in the WWE which is a wrestling show which is for everyone to enjoy.

There are currently over 6 million podcasts in the world.

  • There are over 546 million podcast listeners worldwide.
  • In 2024, worldwide podcast ad spending is estimated to hit $4.02 billion.
  • Video podcasts are on the rise, with as many as 33% of US podcast listeners opting for watchable podcasts.
  • YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts lead the pack for global podcast dominance.

”By 2027, the number of podcast listeners worldwide forecasted to hit 651.7 million.”

I have got this information from a website called Backlinko.com.

I have got this information from a website called Edisonresearch.com.

Podcast listenership in the United Kingdom (UK) has been increasing year on year, reaching an estimated 21.2 million listeners in 2022.”

Estimated number of podcast listeners in the United Kingdom (UK) from 2017 to 2025.

”Weekly podcast listening in the United Kingdom as of the 1st quarter of 2020, by age.”

I have got this information from a website called Statista.com.

My plan is to do two solo podcasts so I have decided to research different examples of solo podcasts just so that I can get some inspiration and ideas for both my podcasts like the tone on the overall structure of the podcast like weather its formal or informal and the overall genre of the podcast.

Examples of solo podcasts

This a guide from Patrick Bet-David on ideas or creating a podcast. The podcast is informal and relaxed.

This is the target audience for the Valuetainment podcast.

This is a podcast from Steven Bartlett talking about how to create a successful podcast. The podcast is formal and the tone is serious.

This is the target audiance for The Diary Of A CEO Podcast.

This is a podcast from Kapil Gupta talking human psychology and spirtuality.

This is the target audinace for The Truth Seeker Podcast.

Ideas for my podcast

Examples of educational podcasts

My final idea

I am going to make a solo educational podcast talking about the English GCSE exam papers from EDUQAS. The reason why I have decided to talk about the English GCSE exam papers is because I feel that there is definitely room for improvement in terms of the papers in general and the overall system for I feel that the overall system partially runs down on luck when it comes to passing English for I have been told by my English teacher that the exam board for EDUQAS change their mark scheme for every GCSE English exam paper.

This makes me feel that they aren’t being consistent and also in the last question for component 1, we have to write a story using one of the following topics or titles which I find frustrating for in every exam paper they change the topics and titles every time. I feel that the exam board for EDUQAS should be fair and give the option for students to make their own story’s.

This could help students come up with an idea and also similarly for component 2, the problem that I find is that each different variation of the English GCSE component 2 paper tells us to write either a speech, article or review. I feel that instead of giving each option on a different version of the English component 2 paper, they should instead give us all three options instead of sticking to 1.

Age demographics for my podcast

The age demographic for my podcast will be for both high school and college students like 15-19.

How long my podcast is going to be

My podcast is going to be 4 hours and 36 minutes long.

I have messaged Jonathan Thomas (manager of EDUQAS) about my complete frustration with the English GSCE exam papers.

I have used an AI software called Toolbaz, to ask it how I could potentially get in contact with CEO of EDUCAS, Ian Morgan.

Ian Morgan

I am also thinking if I have got time to make another podcast on my review for a game called WWE 2K24 for I feel that the game fails to give what fans of the WWE 2K franchise want and has got quite a lot of problems and issues that I would like to discuss in my podcast.

Age demorgraphics

The age demorgraphic for people who play video games the most in the UK is 30-39 years old. I have got this information from a website called Statista.com.

How long the podcast is going to be

The podcast is going to be 11 hours and 31 minutes long.

These videos are inspiration for my podcast.

I haved listened to an episode of The Video Game podcast where they review WWE 2K24.

Podcast proposal

Task 2

Script for my solo educational podcast on the GCSE English exams from EDUQAS.

1st script for my podcast on WWE 2k24.

Second script for my solo podcast on WWE 2K24. I have used ChatGPT to polish and tweak the script a little bit.

This is my letter that I have writting directly towards 2K about my opions on WWE 2K24.

Logo for my podcast

I have made a Youtube channel with the same name and logo so that I can upload my podcast on this channel.

Examples of branding for other podcasts

I like the art style of the logo which makes it look retro.

The effects make it look galactic as if the podcast is about outer space.

I like the green and blue tone blending together which makes it look eye catching.

This logo looks very child friendly with the cartoons.

The logo shows us an old woman next to a dog which instantly indicates to the viewer that the podcast is about pets.

The logo does look like what you expect to have in a label on top of a cup of sauce.

The two people standing togehter with suits makes it look professional.

The logo shows us the viewer, who the host is for the show.

Location to record my podcast

I am planning to record the voice over for my podcast in the recording studio over at the Lister building.

Editing the podcast

I am going to edit my podcast on Ethier Adobe Premiere or Capcut.

Platform that I am going to upload my podcast on

I am going to upload my podcast on Youtube.

Survey for my educational podcast

These are the questions that I have writtin down on a survey making website called SmartSurvey.co.uk.

Responses for my survey

The responses that I got from students mosly conistants of no for questions such as ”do you think for componet, we should be able to write our own story without using any of the following titles or topics”, do you think that on componet 2, we should have 3 options which is to either write a speech, article or review instead of worrying so that we are not worried about which is option is going appear on a English componet 2 paper, do you feel that passing english on a GCSE exam paper from Eduqas partially stems on luck and ”do you think Eduqas should keep the mark sheme for every GCSE English exam consistant or should they keep changing the the mark scheme.

Different types of Microphones

  1. A dynamic microphone is a type of microphone that converts sound waves into electrical signals using a magnetic field and a moving metal coil or ribbon.
  • How it works Sound waves cause a diaphragm to move, which in turn moves a coil within a magnetic field. The movement of the coil in the magnetic field creates an electrical current that transmits the audio.

Features

Dynamic microphones are known for being rugged, reliable, and having a high signal-to-noise ratio. They can handle high sound pressure levels without distortion, making them a good choice for capturing loud audio sources. They also don’t require batteries or external power supplies.

2. A condenser microphone is a recording tool that uses a diaphragm to convert sound waves into electrical signals:

How it works

A condenser microphone’s diaphragm is a thin, conductive membrane that vibrates when sound waves hit it. This vibration transfers a current to a metal plate, which creates an audio signal.

Features

Condenser microphones are known for their ability to capture detail, making them a top choice for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and other audio. They are also more sensitive than dynamic microphones, so they can be placed further from the mouth.

3. A ribbon microphone is a type of microphone that uses a thin, electrically conductive metal ribbon to capture sound

How it works

A ribbon microphone uses a thin strip of metal, usually aluminum, that’s suspended in a magnetic field. When sound waves hit the ribbon, it vibrates and converts the sound into an electrical signal.

Features

Ribbon microphones are usually bi-directional, meaning they can pick up sound from both sides of the microphone. They are known for their warm, natural sound, and for adding low-end emphasis while rolling off high-end frequencies.

4. A shotgun microphone is a directional microphone that picks up sound from a specific direction while reducing background noise.

How it works

Shotgun microphones are often used in film and video production, vlogs, and interviews. They are ideal for noisy environments because they can filter out background noise.

5. Cardioid microphones pick up sound from only one direction; from in front of the microphone. This means that they are very effective for interviews or performances in loud places, where ambient sound needs to be cancelled out in favor of the interviewee or performer.

6. Multi-pattern microphones allow you to switch between multiple polar patterns. Depending on the microphone in question, it could be switchable from cardioid to super cardioid and back, or go through all of the above, with the exception of shotgun patterns. Some modern designs even allow you to morph between multiple existing polar patterns to create new and unique ones.

My complainet about the English GCSE exams.

Message to Ian Morgan (CEO of EDUQAS)

English presentation on the GCSE English exams from EDUQAS

Monday 16th December

I have decided to only do one podcast which is on the GCSE English exams due to deadline restictions.

My podcast

Self Evaluation

Ideas

My original idea was to make two podcasts. One about the GCSE English exams from EDUQAS and another on a game called WWE 2K24. The reason for doing a podcast on the GCSE English exams from EDUQAS is because of my personal frustrations with overall system of the GCSE English exams from EDUQAS for EDUQAS change the mark scheme for every GCSE English exam and for on the last question componet 1, if you write your story but don’t use the following topics or titles, you will lose marks which I found that to be ridiculous for I felt that EDUQAS was limiting creative writing from the students. Similarly for the last question componet 2, you will be givin one option on each paper for componet 2 English which is to either write a speech, article or review. I feel that the exam board for EDUQAS should give us those three options instead of students having to worry about which options is going to come on a English componet 2 paper.

If I did have enough time then I would have made a second podcast which is about about my reviews and thoughts on WWE 2K24 for I feel that the WWE 2k franchise has gone downhill.

Secondary Research

I looked at a podcast from a Youtube channel called ImPaulsive where the host Logan Paul interviews John Cena. I also researched some solo podcasts. I even listened to a podcast from a Youtube channel called The Video Game Podcast and even watched video game reviews of the game for some inspiration. Furthermore I researched different types of microphone types and logos from other podcast channels. I also did my English presentation on the English GCSE exams from EDUQAS and upoaded on Youtube and put in my Digital Space portfolio so that I could link the presentation with the idea for my podcast.

Primary research

I emailed 2K who is the developer for WWE 2K25 and people who worked at EDUQAS and also I made a survey for people to answer questions the GSCE English exams from EDUQAS. I wrote my scripts down and uploaded them as PDF files onto my Digital Space.

What could I have done better.

I wish when recording my podcast in the recording studio that I could have made my voice more enthusiastic. Aside from that, there is nothing that I feel could have improved.
