DEVELOPING PRACTICAL WORK

I decided to make an original and base it off an old idea of mine.I was going for a challenge to write a new style of song that I hadn’t before, I wanted to make a cool rock song like the jam or arctic monkeys and many other bands that have that 90s -2000s rock feel to it.I wasn’t sure what to base lyrics or even chords off. For some reason at that moment in time i was a bit frustrated and decided to make a song about people who just annoy the hell out of you, so thats how i managed to write an intro and a verse for lyrics i just cant seem to feel the same way i felt that day im now struggling to write a chorus and another verse.I am in a group with Mikey on the drums. I chose Mikey because I felt the only way I can adapt this old idea into something good is by having a drummer I can communicate with so it allows us to understand each other when we can’t exactly put into words. At first we just started using my idea to start jamming and come up with things for the intro like bass parts cool rock style drums and a repeated intro with a distortion pedal for the guitar .

This is the first video of the original song . In the video we are working on the introduction of the song focusing on chords and timing for the drums. You can see in the video the sounds is very different and all the timings are off we were struggling to work together and communicating.We wanted to get atleast past the intro by this time that was our goal for the day and to communicate better to turn our ideas into something real.
This is pretty much the same as we are struggling to come up with chords and a beat for the drums we hit a wall. We managed to push past it by the end of the day getting the chords right and making sure the beat fits the timings and style of the song. I feel the build up on drums with the intro needs more work as we go further into it the drums seem to speed up we need to get that steady the whole way through. My guitar playing needs to be more consistent getting the chords right every time as that definitely does not help with the timing of things. The goal was to have moved onto a verse atleast by the 2nd day and we were still struggling very rocky start to the project. For the next day the goal remains the same.
In this video we are trying to find a good way for the drummer to get us into the verse or chorus with the right fill to start to work on the rest of the song we still haven’t thaught about other instruments I’m having to cover for bass at the beginning and I have no clue what we are going to do about vocals and stuff like that but we will figure it out. Through the videos the order of the chords and strumming change as I’m constantly trying to see what is better and what is worse.The goal was failed AGAIN😂 but we didn’t give up on it so we had high hopes for the next one.

We know we have to improve for something to happen with the song if not it would have no direction and I don’t like to leave my projects without an end I like to see how much it changes .

with this latest video the song has changed alot, The intro had changed so we could find a definite way to get to verse. On the weekend before this sessions i was pretty much sat with my guitar for all of it trying to find ways to adapt and make this song not completely crap.

This is me after discovering the chorus for the song it was going to be a verse at first but we had other plans for the verse.So I decided to make it a chorus and I managed to communicate what I wanted on drums so it went quite well I was happy with the process it was a good feeling to see the song progress more than I thought.

The song in this video finally has structure we have a intro, verse, chorus and verse we need to work on an outro and it should be good. There is still alot to improve with this song down to timings of guitar with rhythm and with the drums remembering the crash and timings but other than that the last video is actually pretty good in my opinion. Unfortunately I don’t think I will have another chance at using jaheim and Suk on guitar and bass it was nice to have a full band work on my project with me it was good to lead and tell people my ideas and they listen and help make the idea Into a real song I would like to be able to have them finish this project with me but they may have other stuff do to.

In this video it shows the finished idea for the instrumental the video shows us reaching the goal that we set for our selfs and it shows that I beat my own challenge now. the only thing missing that I will work on after this project is the lyrics I’m sure I will come back to this project to finish it with the lyrics and maybe even modifying it if that’s what I’m thinking that the time.But overall I feel we both managed to take something if not more from this project down to timing communication and just making music as a whole.
