Project 3

Idea Development and Research

Genre: Comedy
Channel 1: Sturniolo Triplets

With the remarkable milestone of 5 million YouTube subscribers and continuing growth, The Sturniolo Triplets made their digital presence as a force to be reckoned with. Their captivating content, humorous personalities and engaging style has breached across millions. Beyond YouTube, the triplets have gained an outstanding number of following with over 30 million across various social media platforms.

The trio, Chris, Matt, and Nick, have risen to fame through their youtube channel, where their personalities have had a widespread recognition. Known for their entertaining content, they have become common names within social media, captivating audiences with their hilarious humour and relatability.

They create long form comedy content, vlogs, challenges and “sit-down”talk videos. The triplets quickly became known from filming their videos of their mum’s 2012 mini-van from a parking lot in Boston.

The Triplets’ video topics venture to various topics, but they all still fall under the genre of comedy as their humour drags viewers in.

The triplets’ most popular video has 9.7 million views with a whooping 475k number of likes.

They earned around 18,000 dollars from their most popular video on their channel. I think this video is so popular as it is entertaining with a comedic atmosphere and amusing content topic, as they are trying a challenge as a group and filming knowing that something will go wrong and it will bring the humour to the video.

Channel 2: LARRAY

The social media influencer Larri Merrit, publicly known as “LARRAY”, is a YouTube content creator with an outstanding number of subscribers of 9.2 million. Larri has made his digital presence by creating videos of him playing a game called roblox. His career became more successful as he started creating collaboration videos with other YouTubers like “Twaims” and “The Sturniolo Triplets”. His videos started to include comedic content like humorous memes and vines inbetween takes of his content.

The creator’s fame had moved towards different digital programmes, like the app tik tok. Larri’s fame had been risen as he started to make collaborations with other creators on tik tok like Vinnie Hacker and Charli Damelio which had them gotten him apart of a creators house named The Hype House which then got its own 1 season show on Netflix, starring Larri Merrit himself, including numerous of different creators apart of ‘The Hype House’.

His content is different on almost every video he uploads. His videos move from different genres on the youtube community, as he uploads some gaming content on there, some vlogging content, challenge content etc. Almost every video still falls into the genre of comedy as he edits in humorous content inbetween takes in every video. He is giving the comedic effect to his content and leaving his audience wanting to watch more which then leads them to view his channel, encouraging them to click the subscribe button just by being himself and expressing his personality throughout his channel and the content he uploads.

Larray’s most popular video is a music video for his track “Cancelled”, with 106 million views and 3.1 million likes.

Larri earned around 197,513 dollars from his most popular YouTube video. I think this music video has become his most viewed video as it is a music video for his song that he made as a joke. In the song he is dissing different content creators across the internet. This video was all across the internet and people were mainly coming onto YouTube to watch and listen to the song because they saw it on another social media app they use.

Channel 3: Offensive Tea

This channel is very different than Larray and the Sturniolo Triplets as their content is not of themselves, but it still falls into the genre of comedy. The channel is similar to Larray’s content in a way as they also use different humorous memes and videos that is relevant to the clips but also funny.

The only difference between Larray and Offensive Tea is that Offensive Tea edit episodes from shows and interviews from actors etc. Their content is edited videos that have most likely already been uploaded to YouTube by interview companies. The content is videos edited in between other relevant videos to take roast the person or show that the video is about. Even though the content is them roasting the topic of the video, this highlights the comedic part of the video as the relatable memes brings the audience in and invokes them to want to watch more of their content.

Offensive Tea’s most popular video has 1.08 million views with 500k likes.

This video earned the creator of this channel 22,352 dollars. This video is the most popular as the topic is focused on a social media influencer known as Nicole Tv. The video focuses on her chaotic behaviour within her content, so using her chaotic, comedic content and adding on more comedic content all into one video highlights the comedy genre falling towards the channel. Also using someone that is very common all across the internet has helped it get more views. Nicole Tv has a reputation of her doing something wrong whilst getting ready in her videos, like that one video of her burning herself whilst trying to straighten her hair. People know who she is because of her viral videos so using someone who is publicly known for your video topic will gain your viewing numbers.

Idea Development:

Idea 1:

My first idea for my channel was to create a compilation channel, creating videos of content that is already made and editing them together into big videos based on one relevant topic each video. But i have decided not to take on this idea as it would take so much storage on my phone, from screen recording and saving the videos from tik tok all on to my iphone.

Idea 2:

Another idea i had was to make a comedy-like vlog channel, vlogging my daily adventures with my friends, whilst also adding humorous content withing the video like memes and relevant references. I think this is a good idea as it would be easy to film and the easiest to make a branded theme related towards the channel genre of vlogging.

Pre-production

Channel Overview:

My channel will focus on vlogging, taking inspiration from the creators, The Sturniolo Triplets. Vlogging, as a genre, is known for giving viewers an intimate glimpse into the lives of YouTubers. By taking inspiration from the triplets and larray, my channel aims are to capture the essence of daily life within my content. The idea of a vlogging channel aspires to create content that not only entertains but also leaves a lasting impact, forming a bond with the viewers.

My channel will include content centered around my lifestyle and the day-to-day moments that define it. The channel will serve as a window into my life. Capturing the adventures of my life, viewers will accompany me on journeys of exploration, discovery and laughter. The content will be a reflection of the experiences that make up my life. The touch of humour within the content will infuse each video with a light-hearted and comedic touch. This genre of content, rooted in the everyday joys of life, pulsates with audiences seeking both entertainment and relatability.

Video Overview:

My video will be me vlogging my day during the NCS Trip with college. The video that i will be filming for this project will be a vlog like comedy. The video will cover a montage showing the activities we participate in throughout the trip. The video will also feature snippets from our exciting day out, showing the enjoyment shared amongst us. The video will include amusing memes which will add an extra layer of entertainment, giving the video a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the viewing experience. The length of the video will be approximately 10-15 minutes.

Justification:

My channel will adhere to the YouTube guidelines as the content that will be uploaded to the channel will be censored if needed before uploading. I will need add on comedy and vlog tags onto the video during the upload and set the audience to “not for kids. There isn’t really any guidelines that need to be considered as there is no reason for trigger warnings and it will only include lightly comedic content.

Production

Filming:

I am going to be filming on a iphone 11 as the quality is good and i think it is the easiest as i will have my phone on the go which highlights the whole perspective of the content shown within my channel. I also think using my phone is the easiest solution as it is less of a hassle booking out a camera and a mic from college and carrying the heavy equipment on the train and around all of the equipment on the site we are going to.

Branding:

For the profile picture, i had used a photo of me that had been taken a while back for an instagram photo, but i wanted to use it for the profile picture to present channel to give it an aesthetic effect that draws viewers in.

I used the website “Canva” https://www.canva.com/ to create the banner for the channel as it is a lot easier to any other illustrating programme that i’ve ever used to create logos etc. I decided to go with the galaxy background to match it with the same aesthetic effect the profile photo gives. I think this adds an ongoing theme onto the channel. I also added the heading “vlogs with leoonn” onto the banner as it is relevant towards my channel name (“leeoonnnn”) and the with genre of the channel being vlogs and lifestyle.

Editing

I made the decision to edit the vlog using the programme CapCut as i find it much easier to use compared to any other editing software i have used in the past. I have chosen CapCut because the video is an on-the-go vlog, and i find that my editing skills are put to good use with its features. I feel more proficient using CapCut, which allows me to enhance the quality and presentation of the vlog effectively.

During editing, i realised that whilst filming, i didn’t introduce the video or the topic, so i decided to record an extra clip of me explaining the topic of the video before it starts.

I did this using QuickTime Player on my mac, as i do not have access to another camera. I am now realising that i should have just used my phone for this as the quality of the is not the best.

I also used this to record clips of me explaining the activities before it cuts to footage on a different time of the day.

I added memes in between cuts to add the comedic effect, which also relates to Larray’s content on his channel and it makes the video funny and more entertaining for the viewers. I got the memes from tik tok and youtube on my phone and airdropped it to my mac.

I bleeped out the swearing in the video. I screen recorded the bleep sound effect from YouTube on my phone and air dropped it to my mac. I split the scene to the part where the swearing starts and ends and i extracted the audio and deleted it and the added the bleeping sound over the video.

On the final part of editing i ran into a slight problem as i had ran out of data on my mac, and i couldn’t airdrop the last but of footage i needed so i airdropped the footage to a mac at college and then exported the video from capcut and airdropped it to the mac at college.

I then used premiere pro and edited the footage that i needed into the video and then saved and uploaded.

TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH UPLOADING

Reflection & Evaluation

Overall, this project has proven to be enjoyable and exciting for me, because of the sense of freedom i experienced with the topic of the video. It was incredibly freeing to discover into the comedic side of vlogging, which helped me explore various humorous approaches. Adding comedy into the vlog added entertainment not only for me as the creator but also for the audience. It helped me experiment with different comedic elements like, humorous comments and witty memes in between takes, which enhanced the overall entertainment of the vlog. The comedy aspect not only made the editing more enjoyable but it also made a connection with the audience on a more personal and relatable level.

The research i used for influence from the comedy genre within YouTube shaped the direction for my content. Specifically, i found inspiration from popular and humorous creators such as the Sturniolo Triplets and Larray. Exploring their content and comedic styles provide me with insights into highlighting the comedic elements within a YouTube video. Researching the Triplets and Larray helped me to explore their comedic techniques and humor. By watching their content, i got a deeper understanding of how to structure and deliver the comedy moments within my own vlog.

Overall the project went well, although not without a few technical difficulties along the way. One notable issue was low storage on my devices, which caused difficulties in finishing up editing. Dealing with trouble with uploading the video onto YouTube proved to be another obstacle. These technical issues arose during the upload process, causing delays and frustration. Despite these challenges the project’s overall success shows the resilience and adaptability demonstrated throughout the journey.
