My project planning and punctuation were horrendous, in my opinion. I had many different ideas but could not settle. In the end, I ended, up choosing the most viable easy project. A car review video.
My strengths were, I would say, my dedication to completing the video and my ability to acquire the vehicle. It is not easy to acquire a 2022-plate vehicle. To hire a 2022 plate vehicle it would cost upwards of £500, but fortunately our sponsor loaned the car to us for the day.
My weaknesses I would first like to point out that this will be a bigger than ‘my strengths’. My first weakness would be time management. Throughout this course, my time management has been atrocious. I have not been able to meet deadlines, I have always been turning my work in late, and even till this day I can not get it right. My first idea was to do a Nasheed video, but because of my incompetence with punctuality and other health issues, I have not been able to accomplish the FMP I would really liked. However, the fact that I was able to complete it shows me that I was dedicated. Even with the lack of equipment, I was able to record and produce the video.
My performance in my FMP, in opinion, could definitely have been better. As I reviewed the footage multiple times, I realised that I stuttered on multiple occasions during the production. I also did not like the fact that I had to read off of my phone, but as I mentioned in video, due to health conditions or probably my incompetence, I was not able to memorise the script. My overall performance, in my opinion could of been better, but I believe it was satisfactory.
Project Development Issues I faced was the fact that I had to rely on people who kept letting me down on multiple occasions. My communication was not on par with the expected standard, and this was pikced uo and mentioned by my sponsor that my communication was not on an adequate level, as when he asked the duration of how long the video would take to record or what I would be recording, I did not inform him. The technical issues I faced was not being able to operate the gimbal to a professional standard or having the correct amount of experience to operate the gimbal. Another issue I faced was not having a high-quality phone to operate the camera gimbal with, fortunately, my phone camera was able to suffice.
In the future, I hope to start my projects early and set myself strict deadlines. As I am very bad at time management, I believe setting myself goals and deadlines will help me beat the deadline, if not at least make it.
I enjoyed filming theproject, as this is my passion. I hope to one day work for a huge label like WarnerBros or ITV. The least part of the project I enjoyed would have to be the paperwork, even though it is important, I don’t think anyone enjoys it.
While going over my initial production plan, I realized everything I initially wanted to do had been changed. I did not stick to any of the original plans or structures I said that I would; rather I entirely changed them.
Reflective Model:
What?, So What?, Now What?
My role in the production was the Director, Car Reviewer, cameraman alongside our sponsor and editor and not forgetting script writer.
I was trying to achieve a successful professional like car review video. I took inspiration from Mat Watson from Car Wow and Forrest from Forrest’s Auto Reviews. Both the people I have mentioned are famous for reviewing cars and have millions of followers across all social media paltforms.
The actions I took to carry out this video was one hiring/borrowing the correct equipment required to record a review video. two, contacting people to borrow their car for a certain time frame also carrying out extensive research on the vehicle in question.
In my opinion I succeeded in borrowing the nessassary equipment and aqcuiring a vehicle. My research was in my opinion on par but maybe could of been better. My preparation was not on par with professional car reviewers as they memorise their scripts or they already know what to say. I believe I suceeded in producing the video aswell as editing and writing the script, but I could of managment my time better. My punctuality throughout this course could’ve been better or atleast should’ve improved.
This teaches me to be more mindful. After this experience I believe I will push my self to strive to complete and hit deadlines, instead of missing them each time.
As I mentioned before, I could’ve set myself targets so I could hit my deadlines but because of my own incompetance I did not take any action towards it.
What do I need to do to make things better? stop being stuck/improve my
teaching, resolving the situation, feeling better, getting on better, etc., etc.?
In order to stop returning back to this situation I need to set myself personal goals and targets to achieve during every project. I need to set these targets and follow them strictly so that I can succeed in the future with not only my studies but also future jobs.
Development Stages
In the beginning most of my work was done within the college and any work done outside would of been contacting different companies for qoutes on how much it would of costed for a full music video recording or how much it would cost for to hire a drone and a operator. Most of the work I did in the beggining stages was not effective as it did not effect my the actual project I ended uo choosing. However, the phone calls between the people I know helped immensely, as I am a person who if I set my mind on something no one can change it. But, my teacher was able to direct me in the right way which ultimately leaded me into recording a car review video. I would rate myself a 3/10. The reason I gave myself thsi rating is because my punctuality is horrendous and any plans that I did mkae always got pushed.
Collaborations
I collaborated with an Uncle that I knew who was kind enough to lend me his car and his time to help me film and complete my FMP. This collaboration was a success because if it was not for the director of ‘Sunnis4Marriage’ I would probably not even have an FMP to present.
