What went well?
Throughout playing Everlong, I played mostly in time with the actual song in the background. I was able to use the correct chord shapes and was able to switch between them fairly fluently. I used dynamics well to fit the song, palm muting the string in order to build up the song at the beginning and before the last pre-chorus. It would have been even better if I played standing up to fully perform the song.
What was successful?
The most successful part of the song was the pre-chorus and chorus as it was the most fluent and the dynamics went well. It was also the most fun to play, meaning the sound was more clear and therefore was more successful.
What wasn’t successful?
The changes from chorus to the versus weren’t as fluent due to it being a different strumming pattern meaning I lost tempo slightly and had to slow down or speed up. The mistake is less hidden and easier to spot, showing that changing from chorus to verse was not as successful.
What could i improve next time?
Next time I perform Everlong or any other song, I could improve on keeping the correct tempo throughout the song to perfect any mistakes made. Doing this would mean the song would be more successful and fun to play and listen to as the song would be fluent throughout.
How could i improve next time?
To improve I would practice the parts i struggle on the most, and play them until I make no more mistakes. I could also work on my posture and playing standing up to get the whole experience of performing and to enhance my skills.
SMART targets
- Need to practice staying in time by playing with a backing track, be able to play it fully in time without speeding up or slowing down before Christmas.
- Work on saying how i am going to improve when i evaluate, rather than saying to just practice.
- Work on sound quality and organisation. Figure out a system that works to make sure the sound quality on the videos sound good. Work on this throughout the year.
