Task 2: Research and Pre-Production

While researching different films, I watched a production of Grease at my old secondary school. This turned out to be a good example of my film as the film is very much based on opposites-attract as Sandy is seen as a ”Good Girl” and Danny is seen as more of “Bad Boy” which is very similar to my idea of introverted girl and extroverted boy. I thought this was a perfect concept for my film.

According to secondary research Romantic Comedy or RomCom is the 7th most popular movie genre, so I will being trying to make it more comedic in parts while still maintaining the plot and keeping the story going. This means I will need to be able to write a compelling script which is also comedic in places. I think this is the best way to write it because if not I think it would be too serious and less enjoyable to watch.

I need to be used to working with cameras so I get the right angles and others. I also need to get comfortable with image stabilisation or with a tripod therefore the shot isn’t shaky which would make the film seem less professional. I will be editing with Adobe Premier Pro which I need to get used to using so I can maximise my use of the software and take advantage of its features so I can make my film the best it can be.

One of my scenes will be entirely on a computer screen, therefore I researched how to effectively do this. I watched the film “Unfriended” which was completely filmed on a computer to get inspiration for the right ways to use it. I would use OBS to record the screen and then have the actress simply go around the computer using it regularly. At the start she would start playing music to help the scene seem less awkward and silent and then call a friend on video chat.

This will be filmed in many different locations. Including 2 different bedrooms, on a bus and generally shots outside. Some of these locations are quite difficult so we will need some risk assessment as well as making sure each scene is perfect. It will be more difficult to film in these places because of how you don’t have any control over the set because it is a public place.
