Task 4 Evaluation

The analysis I have received on the quality of my advert has allowed me to understand the strengths of my advert. The first point I received was that it was direct and to the point, which I personally agree with as in every shot of my advert the product was displayed at the forefront. I showed it on my wrist zooming in and out and showing fast snappy shots to keep the viewer entertained. I also got told my advert was well edited which I fully agree on as after moving to premier pro I learned to correctly layer my videos and added transitions that helped it flow as a whole. I Played with premier pro and managed to export my clip successfully with my goal of having a fully functioning advert achieved. The information in my advert was small with the only text present at the end of the advert however because I showcased my product and got its good qualities across.

Overall my project went okay as I underwent drastic improvements and development on my work. I started to edit my advert on after effects and realized soon enough that it wasn’t efficient to good for the specific task I needed to do. I struggled with layering, effects and transitions, importing music and timing the clips to fit the music. After working hard to try to pull something together on after effects I decided to more on to premier pro. When coming onto premier pro I found it a lot more easier and straight forward to plan my structure and actually take my planning into action. I layered my clips successfully and imported the correct music that fit the horror theme of my advert. Going forward I need to prioritize learning effects and transitions in order to fasten my work rate and finish a lot sooner then I did.

My task one research benefitted me so much as it gave me a real insight into how different social media platform adverts differ from each other. This can be through how long the advert is, how energetic it is, where it’s filmed and what genre of commercial it is. I researched into social media platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. Snapchat was the first social media platform I researched and during my research I found out that it’s an app that can be accessed on more then a smart phone, but also tablets or iPads. This was interesting to me as it sparked an idea in my mind. The idea was to create and manipulate my advert to fit a social media platforms style. I chose Snapchat as I was researching it at the time. I tried to look at it from a professional perspective and think about how my advert could be seen by the most people. Snapchat had the versatility and platform that can be accessed on many different devices, at any time of day at any place in the world. With millions of users world wide. I saw Snapchat as the perfect place to make my advert for. I began to look into the demographics of Snapchat and the age group it’s aimed at. And the target audience was the younger section of society which meant I had to create my advert in a way that’s engaging. Knowing and learning about Snapchats target audience helped me plan for what I wanted my advert to come across as. It made me think ahead and give me ideas such as having snappy shots and funky music to keep the young mind constantly stimulated. My experience researching overall was great as I managed to collect all the necessary facts that I needed to know to mold my advert into “Snapchat one”. Learning about its relevancy and demographics really helped me make mine the best I could and adapt my original ideas to make it flow.

My task 2 research really opened my eyes to understanding how adverts can be structured to interest the audience. Me and my group began creating a mood board including many images of adverts. When placing all of it together I managed to spot a theme. This theme was energy, all images included light and were extremely out going which inspired me to incorporate that into my own production. Green was present in the mood board and that tied into the product I was given. The colour of my product was black and green and on the green image on the mood board the colour scheme flowed and there was nothing out of place. It all matched which made me contemplate about the colour I wanted to include and helped me think about how to keep everything pleasant looking and matching. I also filled in the production form and this helped me plan my shots and help me vision how I wanted to film my actual piece. I felt a lot more organized and more prepared for what was to come. Organizing my shots in chronological order really helped me structure my advert into having a beginning middle and end. This overall gave it a professional finish as the product was displayed in a effective way showcasing the packaging, on my arm and on its own as I had originally planned. My overall experience of My task 2 research on mood boards and themes went relatively well however what I would have done instead is maybe order my shots before and then refine my order on the pre production form so then it would have been a lot easier to write down and made me more confident. I also created mind maps of my ideas in order to get pen to paper. My overall experience of the mind maps was okay as I got stronger as time went on. Initially I found it hard to jot down ideas as it was the first time I had sat down to think about it however my ideas began to flow.

Task 3 was my process and development of creating my advert with my commentary. Whilst documenting my process it took me by surprise as I had developed and improved significantly from the start. My experience creating my advert began not so good as I unfortunately decided to use after effects instead of premier pro and as previously mentioned it took its toll on me as the software was extremely difficult to use and not versatile in its controls. I understood that pretty early on and made the switch for my own sake. From then on my experience was good as I learnt effects layering music and the use of key frames. I learned how to use the software in a way that gave my advert a professional look. Going forward I would research into different software uses and find the correct software for what I want to do. That way I can be efficient what I do and finish quicker and stronger

I confirm that the attached assessment is all my own work and does not include any work completed by anyone other than myself and sources have been appropriately referenced.
