Project 2 was a great, tuff and fun experience for me. I believe researching into depth and facing challenges like designing my logo and recording a podcast for the first time made this project challenging and fun for me. During this project I got to learn:
- The different types of microphones
- In depth research into the Ottoman inventions
- How to brand my logo and design merchandise
- How to take on criticism and use it to my benefit in improving my podcast
Whilst the group evaluations I got to see amazing pieces by my fellow classmates. After presenting my podcast I was given multiple feedbacks by different students and my tutor. This is the feedback I was given:
- informative
- Great vocal sound
- Excellent Delivery
- repetitive
- Good research
- Backed Research
- Good at addressing the audience in the outro
- Jingles and Soundtrack was good
- Didn’t waste any time and got straight to the point
- Pauses in the podcast should’ve been edited out
- Branding was amazing because the availability of the podcast on multiple platform’s
After receiving feedback, I was satisfied and proud of the work I did. As I put hard work and tried my best. One reason I believe why my fellow classmates loved my presentation was because my podcast was something different and not something that you would normally hear people talking about in public. With my feedback, If I could re do some work I would make sure I work on my pauses and edit out my script for the weaknesses where I repeat my words.
Task 1 – Understanding Audiences: In this project I believe my research was stronger than the research I did in my last project. After understanding which topic I wanted to add to my podcast I listened to The Joe Rogan Experience and The Medieval Podcast. These 2 podcast’s are a mix of informal and formal and also solo and co hosted podcast’s helping me understand both sides of the Formats. Because of listening to the two podcasts, I was able to understand a bigger scape of how I wanted to script my podcast. The only difficulty I faced was finding the statistic’s of the Medieval Podcast to why I thought of what age range her viewers would have been. Following my Analysis of the 2 podcast’s, My Primary and Secondary research into audience and demographics help me view the importance of podcast’s to the listeners and what would interest the listeners. Due to further research into the audience of podcasting I changed my script and changed my plan which I believe made my podcast more unique and interesting. Moving on to my proposal I started facing the pressure of recording this podcast. One weakness I noted during this task was finalising everything and bringing my plan into words. As before bringing my plans out of my mind into words I was struggling to decide which idea would work best for me. One thing I would do differently if I could go back to re doing task 1 would be is organising earlier.
Task 2: Planning & Producing a podcast: This task was one of the easiest and difficult tasks for me in the project but also fun. What made this task fun for me was researching on microphones, Where I got to learn in depth information on the different types of microphones. Following the completion of the first part, I was able to script my podcast with ease due to the amount of research I did. Whilst scripting my podcast I faced some difficulties like wording my podcast. I tried my best to not repeat my words. But on the other hand I am proud on how I was able to improvise. Moving on to Sound design I was able to choose my intro and outro music which I believe fit in to my podcast very well. The Audio Editing was a interesting part of this task as I made mistakes but I also learnt. I edited my audio via Premier Pro. Using tools like Markers/Keyframes, I comfortably adjusted to editing my podcast. The only issue I noted down was how I kept adding studio reverb to my audio. Thereafter one of my tutors reviewed my audio helping me add the right effects to make my podcast sound crisp and smooth. As mentioned above I was facing difficulties deciding which ideas was the best for me. Due to this issue I made diagrams that helped me in the process of planning and producing my podcast. I separated the 2 topics, The Era of Sultan Suleyman Han and The Era of Sultan Abdul Hamid Han and the influence he had on the Islamic empire and the international world and its people. In my mood board shown in the Task 2 Section, I realised the Era of Sultan Abdul Hamid and his influence was more interesting as in the mood board. I made links to different questions and to see where they would end. The good part of my subject research was getting to know the Ottoman history from a religious and a political stand point. But Where As the only issue I faced was which parts of the information would be interesting and useful to use. Which the Spider diagram helped me understand. Overall Task 2 was a good experience for me. The task where I explored various effects from Premier Pro but also got to learn more in depth of the Ottoman History. The weakness in this task was my script at the beginning, Which by the end of completing this task. I had my script ready in hand.
Task 3: Distributing a Podcast: Starting of from branding. I switched through many styles and ideas which brought me to my most best style. I took inspiration from films like Lord of the rings and multiple other TV Shows and clothing brands to bring my idea together and make a elegant logo. My most favourite part about this first part of Task 3 was exploring Photo Shop and Adobe Illustrator where I got to play around with multiple fonts and bring out my idea. With working on Adobe software’s I was able to see more of a different scape to how others design there logo’s and formulate there branding. By exploring multiple ideas I believe that is what made me mix different ideas into one making my logo and branding come to its final shape. As a person who can come up with multiple ideas I just needed a way to bring all these ideas onto a canvas. After executing my branding task I moved onto Interactive functionality which was my most noticeable area of weakness and improvement. Due to having experience in this field with my own YouTube Channel, I was aware that I may get negative and positive comments. But on the other hand I also uploaded to SoundCloud, A platform where I have no experience. Because of the lack of knowledge on Soundcloud I somewhat felt anxious but I was looking forward to receiving anything positive or negative. By receiving this I could use it to better my work in the upcoming future. Last but not least, The Digital Platform. At the very beginning my decision was to upload on YouTube and Spotify. Where As after my research on these platforms I noticed I would require a distributor and a few other steps to just post my podcast to Spotify. Because of that I eased the process for myself and switched to SoundCloud and YouTube.
Overall I believe this project was so much better than my previous project. In this project I was able to look back at my tutor feedback and plan and organise a lot of my requirement’s earlier. Previously I was very much stuck at my planning and my organisation and my work was all over the place, But in this project I quickly used methods like noting down every step in a book, Or using a diagram to help me understand what plan to go forward with. But on the other hand I would say in this project, I should’ve explored more techniques and methods with planning my script and my idea. But other than that, I believe I worked really hard in this project and put my head down. This project will be one of my favourites as I took the chance to learn information I never knew before and understood myself from another stance.

To maintain achieving a distinction level I plan to research more deeply into my chosen topic. To be consistent in attaining this grade, I plan to use more academic sources to strengthen the level of my research. I will look at Documentaries,Articles,Archives of different shows and also Behind the scenes videos. On the other hand, Personally I will document my work on my future projects by taking videos showing the work my group and me are completing during the process. Further on, My planning needs to be formulated at a better standard. For the planning I will initiate group discussions, Make spider diagrams, Set and prioritise goals and document everything i put towards the project. From my part, I will have my own task and i will continue to use methods like spider diagrams, making a list of goals and also completing a risk assessment.
