Section 1: Context (approx. 300 words) |
For my final project I want to record (on Logic Pro X) a 3 track alternative rock EP of covers by bands and artists I like. I will record everything myself such as drums, bass, guitar, piano, vocals and keyboard as well as setting and micing it all up. I will also mix the finish product and produce it all myself. I will be covering the 3 songs the way they were made as they’re already perfect the way they are. I will also create some artwork for the EP with the assistance of Paul. I am choosing to do this because I really enjoy doing full band covers on my own by bands and artists I like and also because I want to have even more experience and knowledge about recording, sound engineering and mixing. When it comes to actually doing the context side of things, I will be talking about the 3 bands (who created the 3 songs I’m covering) with things such as their history and journey as well as what genre they do and who’s in the band and what they play and stuff like that. I will also talk about why I like them and I will do all of this on a page called context. |
Section 2: Research (approx. 50 words) |
When it comes to research, I will be using articles and YouTube videos to research how to improve my recording engineering and mixing skills (specifically on Logic Pro X) so I can use them to enhance the quality of my covers. I will also be using YouTube videos, tabs, lyrics and my ears to research the 3 songs so I can learn them as well as learning any unique recording or producing techniques that will help recreate these songs as best as possible. |
Section 3: Problem solving (approx. 100 words) |
When it comes to problem solving, I could potentially face physical or theoretical problems and I need to know how to solve them. One problem I may encounter is not having enough time in the studio. A solution for that is too practice and learn the songs at home so when I’m in the studio I can do it in one take. Another problem I may encounter is having too much of a workload. A solution for this may be to work out what I should priorities to prevent any stress. I could also reduce my workload if I feel like it is necessary. |
Section 4: Planning and production (approx. 50 words) |
When it comes to planning, I will be doing a main action plan which will be detailed and be my main plan of what I will be doing every week. I will also use a weekly target planning sheet which will help keep me on track and organised as I complete my final project. |
Section 5: Practical skills (approx. 100 words) |
When it comes to practical skills I will need drumming skills, guitar skills, keyboard skills, vocal skills and recording skills so I can record the instruments for the songs. I will also need mixing and mastering skills so I can enhance the sound of the songs to make it closer to the original songs as possible. I will also use all the skills, research and techniques I learned last year which will help me even more without using anymore of my time. |
Section 6: Evaluation and reflection (approx. 100 words) |
When it comes to evaluation and reflection, I will do my main evaluation and reflection at the end of the project so I can evaluate and reflect on everything I have done for this project and this one will be very detailed and will be spending around 2 weeks on this to go over every single thing I did for my final project and this will be the very last thing I do before I hand it in. I will also use a weekly target sheet to evaluate and reflect on my progress every week and this one will be very brief and straight to the point as that’s all that will be needed for what I will be doing every week. |
Section 7: Presentation (approx. 100 words) |
When it comes to presentation, I would like to present my project with artwork to accompany my covers and put them on YouTube. For my artwork I would like to experiment more with it compared to last year and put more effort and thought into the artwork. I want to experiment with different ideas and potentially do a small photoshoot with Paul and get a few drafts before finalising on one and use photoshop to edit the imagery and create the typography and do any finishing minor details. |
