Unit 4 Dreams

initial research ideas (dreams)

I made this mindmap to generate ideas for this project and choose to do creatures that lurk in nightmares.

Artist research

John Keen Mortensen

John Keen Mortensen is known for drawing freaky and ghoulish drawing with ink. I like Night terror, Christmas Bestiary, Post-it monster and sticky monster.

Artist research specialist practice

I found a digital painter called Manuel Augusto who made their work using photoshop.

This art piece is called monster slayer redux

I like their work because monster is drawing and how it looks like a mutation gone wrong but it doesn’t look frightening at all.

Ideas for my final piece

I was thinking of making a digital poster about my work that could also be used as the front cover of a book. For the final piece I want it to seem like there is a person wandering the woods and make it look like they’re in a nightmare.

project proposal

Workshop evidence

batik workshop

In this workshop i did batik and i like how it came out for the first time in a long time. I really like how they came out but the bigger versio was my
favourite

print making workshop

for this print this was based off an scp monster i think i could improved the quality of the work a bit more.
This print was based of a ghoul i found off the the internet and im not really liking what it looks like. you cant even tell that the ghoul has eyes.
this was a print was based off one of the scary games called dark deception. for the practise print it came out well and have no complaints about it.

chalk and charcoal work shop

In this workshop i didn’t have chalk so i couldn’t add highlights to my work but i don’t like how it turned out
In this one i like how the one on the left came out after i put the hair spray on it but the image on was a complete accident and i liked how it looked and put it next to the original
this is the digital print version of the the charcoal work i did.

final piece idea

This is the final piece idea i came up with. i wanted to have a person wander the empty woods while being stuck in a nightmare. The eyes represent the feeling of being watched and i wanted to make this scene similar from a scene from a show called gravity falls. I was thinking of adding of adding creepy texts to the trees in my final piece.

developmental stages

this one was good but i didnt like the the colour of the monster. So i wanted to change it
For this one this was exerimental piece of work before the final piece i changed a few things for the final piece. But this is the best version so far minus the height.

The final piece

This is the final piece and I’m happy with how it came out. I like how the character came out bit I think the title should be more clearer than how it is now. I like how the monster blends in a bit with the tree.

Final evaluation

  • What is your specialist practice and why have you chosen this? I have choosen digital art as my specialist practise because im comfortable with it and i have done it before.
  • How did you interpret the dreams project? i thought that i should do some nightmare related after i was told about the project and came up with ideas using mindmaps.
  • What inspired this idea? (Think about your interests, the research you did, gallery visits, other artists and any discussions you had with your peers or tutors) what inspired me was when some one came up with the idea of monsters so i decided to do a monster lurking in a forest setting and i found a monster just like that called the hide behind.
  • What materials and technical skills have you used during this project?I have used an app called ibis paint to make my final piece and development stages while using the app I have used new things and  used them in my work
  • Do the materials and technical skills link to your specialist practice? Yes they do I wanted to do digital art as a final piece and digital art is my specialist practise
  • Did you experience any problems practically whilst creating the project?  I have not experienced any type of problems while creating the project I have made plans for the project when I was told what it was going to be.
  • What health and safety elements did you consider when using the practical workshops and again when working within your specialist practice? With my specialist practice and the workshops I did during the projecti didn’t need to do something health and safety related because it wasn’t dangerous
  • Your work should link to elements of the project you have researched. Who/what do they most closely link with and how?
