Project 3 – Task 1 – Broadcast Media Production

Task 1.3 – Research into studio-based broadcast media production

So for this task I’m going to research the different types of broadcast media roles by researching three key roles in the tv studio industry by conducting this research I would be able to understand some of the important roles the media industry has to offer.

Producer

What does a producer do

Producers in the media industry are able to oversee , design and implement projects and working on strict schedules and deadlines and sometimes but not always assisting to keep a film crew under a certain budget. A producer would oversee the production of video & audio elements used in both tv & adverts they also work with production crew , directors , sound engineers and videographers and to oversee production and that is what a producer does.

What equipment would a producer need

For a producer to work they will need certain equipment for them to produce the stuff they need for the tv industry some producers recommend these as it would make a producers job easy these are.

Google Drive

When it comes to storage google drive is what most producers would use to store video , audio and production notes the reason they use google drive for storage is because they would not lose the work compared to using OneDrive , A memory stick or an SD card and Google Drive doesn’t take a lot of storage which gives producers a helping hand when it comes to saving their work.

StudioBinder

A majority of producers would use a website called Studiobinder and producers use this to help manage their productions within the tv & film industry studiobinder helps by assisting with call sheets , script breakdowns , shot list & storyboards , shooting schedules , contact list , task calendars and files producers use this to make things easier for them and studiobinder uses less time compared to it being written up completely.

Those are just two of the things that I’ve found out that producers use to create there shows & movies and found out that by using these two it would make a producers job a slightly better experience.

What specialist vocabulary would a producer need to understand

Producers and most of the film industry have certain specialist words & phrases that they use to understand certain parts of the industry and producers learn this by working in the tv industry for a long period of time. Some of these words are.

  • Anamorphic
  • Back Projection
  • Close-Up
  • Double Exposure
  • Establishing Shot

Those are just some of the words that producers need to understand if they are to work in the film & tv industry they need to understand these but there many more words they use in the industry most I cant really fit in they use those sort of words as signals for film & tv production.  https://www.kingseducation.com/kings-life/filmmaking-vocabulary.

What is the importance of a producer in a tv studio

Producers are one of most important & vital roles in the tv studio as the producers helps & manage to keep things in order whilst filming and behind the scenes production takes place. A producer assist the executive producer (showrunner) pick and collect scripts , introduce new concepts and ideas , supervise other producers and ensure they crew within studio health & safety regulations and also maintain and manage the shows budget and approve tv schedules that is why a tv producer is very important in the media industry.

Camera Operator

What does a camera operator do

Camera operators are operators that operate cameras to record a wide range of tv shows , motion pictures , music videos , documentaries , news , sporting events and live television broadcast other than just a camera they operate portable cameras , remote-control cameras and digital cameras and a camera operator needs to make sure the camera is recording and remains still to prevent errors and mistakes. https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/camera-operator/

What equipment would a camera operator need

Every single camera operator needs equipment so that they would be able to record for tv shows & films the most important thing they must need is a camera cos if they don’t have one that means that they are unable to record but its depends on what studio the person works at. Other things they need to have are lenses , sound equipment , tripod , lighting , reflectors and a camera bag to carry the camera around. By having this equipment they will be use these to create content whether its for the internet , tv or film that’s the equipment they must have to film stuff. https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/cinematographer-equipment-checklist-74400/

What special vocabulary would a camera operator need to know

There are certain words a camera operator needs to understand just like a producer it’s the same special vocabulary that a producer would need however the words are slightly different to a producer as they work behind the camera some of these words are.

  • Backlighting
  • Crane Shot
  • Depth Of Focus
  • Martini Shot
  • Take

These are some of the specialist vocabulary that camera operators need to understand these if they are to work behind the camera or behind the scenes there are load more words that they use however I am unable to list all. https://www.kingseducation.com/kings-life/filmmaking-vocabulary

Why is the camera operator job so important in the industry

the reason why the camera job is so important is because without a camera operator no tv or films would ever exist without them that’s why a camera operator is so important in the industry and they are needed to assemble and set up equipment , planning and rehearsing scenes , follow camera scripts and much more this is why a camera operators job is so important. https://targetjobs.co.uk/careers-advice/job-descriptions/camera-operator-job-description
