Who did I work with?
I worked with my classmates, Ash Pamment and Jake Rothery. We also worked alongside our Tutor, Karl Sherwin, who oversaw and helped manage the production of the show, to make sure it was running smoothly. We planned on having two hosts for the live broadcast and the two people who filled those roles were Maya Bhikha and Mohammed Saeed.
Ash, Jake and myself were assigned our own segments, collaborating with other courses and interviewing some of the students from the other courses. Unfortunately we couldn’t manage to find any students that were free for the test runs and the final show.
What did we plan?
We planned on producing a Live Broadcast, something similar to the BBC ONE Show or any typical Magazine show. As a team Ash, Jake, Karl and I discussed and deliberated on some initial plans and ideas. We all came to the agreement of the Live Production being primarily comprised of VT’s (Video Tapes and not Video Talkies apparently). We would have two main presenters hosting the full show. With shorter segments intercut between the larger segments, again hosted by the Maya and Saeed. The hosts would also help with transitioning to the smaller segments, with each smaller segment being assigned to each of us three students:
- Ash – College News
- Jake – Fashion
- Amar – Media Make-up
- Ash (Originally Jaqueline’s segment – BD25)
Each segment lasted only for a maximum of five minutes. Originally there was 4 of us students, however Jaqueline left. This inadvertently leave the rest of us to challenge and push ourselves to fill her role in both producing her segment and to fill her role in the production of the show while working in the TV studio.
With her absence came more challenges than anticipated. To deal with this, we tried to morph and modify the work without Jaqueline’s segment, in practice this was not feasible.

RISK ASSESSMENT
Previous Show
Review/Post-mortem
One of the first things I noticed when reviewing the older recordings of the previous show; is how the hosts presented the show. They presented the show in a very stilted manner. That could have been mitigated if we had provided the hosts with the script a few days before hand, allowing them enough time to fully learn the script, it would also allow them to feel comfortable enough to add their own touch to each of their roles, as presenters.
When the guest (myself) arrived on set. The script at that point became more reliant upon the hosts ability to improvise; allowing both presenters more freedom and a way to bring more personality to the show; that more personality based section is one of the better segments of that iteration of the show.
Rehearsal
Rehearsal filmed – 13/03/2024.
This was the only Rehearsal filmed. We managed to smooth over a lot of the issues we had during this rehearsal with the one of largest issue being the mic. The microphone used was the only mic we were able to use, as it was the only microphone connected up to the system. It was really good directional pickup, however any off-axis noise was very difficult to hear. When anyone that wasn’t directly in front of the microphone spoke they sounded extremely quiet and muffled. On example of this is at 12:59 when the microphone is turned away from the Host, Ash, to face the Guest, myself.
Another large issue we had while rehearsing was timing. Manually timing the teleprompter to when Ash felt most comfortable to read, to help minimize any stuttering made for a more looking professional presenter. As well as timing the teleprompter we had to time the movie trailers and short film we had lined up. The presenter would first start by providing either a brief summary of the video or a quip, this would then lead into playing the mentioned short film or trailer.
As there was only 3 of us working on the show we had to think of ways to indicate when the next talking points are. For the Host, it was written on the script. However for Jake, who was mostly in the control room, he needed a way to know then to switch to playing the short films and film trailers. To help resolve that issue, we had Ash emphasize certain words to help with coordinating the transition between switching from broadcast to video.
