Explain the processes you completed and why. Evaluate your recording session \u2013 what went well and what could be improved if you did it again?<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Document the mixes you have completed. You should aim to complete more than one mix and evaluation.<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evaluate and reflect the overall project:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What have you learnt?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are your strengths?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What could you improve?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How does this project relate to industry, why is it useful and is it a subject you\u2019d like to study further?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other topics to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>History of recording and formats \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2020\/01\/Studio-Practice1.pdf\">Slides<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples of influential recording engineers\/music producers and famous recordings -Rick Rubin, George Martin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soundonsound.com\/people\/engineers-who-changed-recording\">Article on recording engineers<\/a> (in class we looked at Duke Ellington, Les Paul, Pink Floyd, Eurthymics &amp; Bon Iver)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The importance of recorded music within the music industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic Mixing Tips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pick the busiest and loudest part of the track to loop and mix \u2013 if this sounds good then the rest of the mix will! Try to be reductive rather than additive when mixing to avoid instruments fighting for the same space in the mix. Give your ears a rest regularly and use other mixes you like as a reference point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Organise your stems \u2013&nbsp; label tracks properly, colour instruments, mark the songs (verse, chorus, bridge).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan what you want your mix to sound like before you start. Where would you like instruments to sit in the mix? For example, do you want the guitars to be very prominent?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the volume of the tracks correctly in order to get a good \u2018static mix\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Group tracks together \u2013 especially important for the drums!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use panning to space your mix effectively. Keep the kick, snare and vocals dead center as they will drive the track.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply EQ appropriately to different instruments \u2013 I recommend a high pass filter on almost everything!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply compression appropriately where necessary \u2013 be careful not over compress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply reverb to give a sense of space \u2013 again be careful not to add too much!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experiment! Try other plug-ins that you feel could enhance your mix. For example, delay on the vocals, chorus on the guitars (maybe in the verse of the song). Be creative!
