You will learn on professional editing software using industry standard programmes. Through this module you will be introduced to and gain an understanding of the technical challenges associated with the editing process, from \u2018synching daily rushes\u2019 to the \u2018final cut and sound mix\u2019, working through progressively more difficult non-linear editing systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Learning Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On successful completion of this module you will be expected to be able to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Identify examples of editing for moving image, including developments in technology, key figures and aesthetic considerations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Continuity editing helps ground audiences in the reality of the film while establishing a clear and structured narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of continuity editing is to make the mechanisms of filmmaking invisible as to help the audience dismiss disbelief more easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuity editing, also referred to as three-dimensional continuity, is the predominant editing style among commercial Hollywood films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Eye line<\/li><li>Eye trace<\/li><li>180 degree rule<\/li><li>Matching action<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The 180 degree rule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In filmmaking, the 180-degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By keeping the camera on one side of an imaginary axis (the invisible line) between two characters, the first character is always framed right of the second character.
