Song Chords Anylasis

Better Together – Jack Johnson

The circle of fifths:

This song uses alot of extended chords (F/E for example)

verse:

the songs is in the key of F and begins on chord i it then tuns into a F/E witch is intresting because E is the 7th of the f scale witch make it sound deminished. it then resolves into a Dm witch is the parelel minor of the c scale then it adds a c wich also fits as its the v of the f scale. the next note is an B flat witch is IV of the scale. the fourth is then followed by I witch resolves it nicely this is called a plagal cadence. i find it intrsting on this song how phrases are often left un resolved such as ending on a c but it sounds nice and fits in with the topic of this love song.

Chorus:

this section of the song just repeats its self the b is the diminished of this scale so the quick movement from VII to IV creates tenchion and relise with makes the song more exiting and suspencefull. it then just repeates Asharp to C and then B to A sharp

theory:
d e f# g a b c#
I- d maj- d f# a
II- e min- e g b
III- f# min- f# a c#
