Project 5- Final Evaluation

Before starting this project, I had limited knowledge of film music but was inspired to learn more. An area I was particularly new to was producing orchestral music as well as ambience/ foley. During this project I have learned new skills and techniques in:

Logic – Takes feature, Pitch correction, tempo automation, etc. this will help me in future with any other production projects that I do as well as producing my own music or friends.

Theory- Through learning new styles of songs as research for film music (You’re So Pretty, Write Me A Letter). This improved my piano knowledge which has now diversified my repertoire.

Performance- Performing alongside a band helped me see the difficulty there is for people who work in this field because of how difficult it is to collaborate with many different people efficiently.

During this Project my confidence in this area of music has significantly grown since where I was at the start. A moment that I believe I did well in was over coming team issues, my original concept to do music for some level 5 students’ film, unfortunately this didn’t play out as planned due to their unresponsive communication. One thing I did to try and resolve this issue was sending them Teams messages and tried meeting face to face but quite often didn’t see it or they were unresponsive. I then parted from that project and found other people to collaborate with to complete the project. At the time this was a stressful situation to be in but I believe I recovered from it well and it also taught me a lesson in the longer run to never let someone slow you down. Another moment I am proud of is creating vocal harmonies in the radio indent in logic, i am proud of this because I did it at a good speed and knew what i was doing. This showed me what i had learned over the last few months and reminded me that i am improving

The initial reason i investigated film music as an idea for Project 5 was because of my love for acting and film as well as music. This made it the perfect thing for me to spend time looking into. I do not regret choosing this theme for my final project because even if i don’t go into this field i have still learn a lot about music performance and production through my research.

In conclusion, there are many areas witch I believe I under delivered on, especially my final tracks. I would have preferred to do more and get them to a higher quality. The collapse of my initial plan is partially to blame due to having the rethink a lot of what I wanted to do as well as the wasted time trying to reach out to people i was supposed to be collaborating with. But i have learnt that collaborating with teams is something i need to improve on due to not having much experience in adapting in a team environment before, This has been a massive learning curve because in my past projects I have had more say on what time I wanted everything to be done, so being managed in different ways is definitely something I need to adapt more to. However, i now feel prepared for future collaboration and other challenges that come my way, wether they are in or outside of college.
