Project 1: Research

Introduction.

We are doing a devised piece on sustainability. We have added some script acting pieces which are the chair pieces and the ‘i am worried…’ scene , some dance pieces which are the ‘when i grow up’ and ‘imagine by John Lennon’ and a movement piece which is, the piece about phones and social media. Our piece is based on sustainability. Things like fast fashion, plastic, carbon monoxide, air pollution and social media because we are trying to get the message that if we don’t change our ways the planet will be effected in many ways until its no longer livable and our future will not exist inside of this planet.

Sustainability

sustainability means to ‘sustain’, sustain means to keep something going. Sustainability can be viewed as an approach to sustaining life and supporting the planet. It consists of providing this generation what it needs while also not destroying the future generations chance of getting what they need.

This is important because we live on a planet of limited resources yet as humans we treat it like there’s infinite resources, we have also become used to wanting cheaper and faster ways to make and do things whether its food, clothes or energy.

we need sustainability because if humans continue to live like this it could make the planet unsuitable to live in physically, socially and economically for the future generations.

It would be good to do a performance on sustainability because it educates people on what it is and why we need to all change our ways of living. Also, to help make a real difference in society.

At least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean, every year thousands of seabirds, turtles, seals and other marine mammals end up dead because they’ve either got tangled up into plastic or swallowed it. To reduce this number we could start using anything that’s reusable like straws, bags, water bottles, we could limit the amount of plastic we get in packages or even store bought things. we can also reduce this number by recycling and buying second hand or refurbished goods and buy only what you need.

Production of meat and dairy is a leading cause of deforestation, pollution and the climate crisis. by choosing to eat plant based products you would reduce the amount of deforestation and pollution as food is the biggest category of material thrown into landfills.

We also need to cut down on water waste we can do this by turning taps off while we’re not using them, saving up dirty clothes so you can do a full wash, get a low flush toilet and get a dish washer but make sure it’s full when you turn it on.

Devised theatre

Devised theatre, frequently called collective creation, is usually where the performers create a piece of work with no pre existing script. Where they’ve wrote the script, choreographed a dance show or put together a musical and then they learn and perform it to an audience. They can start a devised piece from a stimulus which is usually an image or a plot. There are many company’s around the world that create devised theatre like The Neofuturists, Tectonic theatre project, Wooster group and many more.

Devised theatre is different to other forms of theatre because other forms of theatre will have a script, a choreographer and a stage manager ect, where as devised theatre all of that is down to the performers to make themselves.

The purpose of devised theatre is to make a creative performance to an audience. It is to present creative works to entertain and start a conversation with an audience, your piece usually gets the audience to question what they already know or to question what they didn’t know, doing devised theatre usually has an impact on the audience In many ways. Companies tend to use devised theatre to address social issues and to teach moments in history, it has become a strong tool in creating conversations with an audience.

devised methods can vary based on the background and talent of their members. Devised work may be text based or entirely physical, it could be politically engaged, a fairy tale, a docudrama or a melodrama.

We are doing a project on devised theatre because we have more freedom to have more ideas and make the performance our own way where as you don’t get that kind of freedom when you have a script. We are also doing devised theatre in order to address social issues the social issue we are going to address is sustainability. And to also learn more about devised theatre and how it works so we know about it in the future.
