Roles Within Journalism

Reporter – A reporter writes stories on a range of topics including news, politics, sports, culture and entertainment.

Editor in chief – An editor-in-chief, also known as lead editor or chief editor, is a publication’s editorial leader who has final responsibility for its operations and policies.

managing editor -A managing editor is a senior member of a publication’s management team. Typically, the managing editor reports directly to the editor-in-chief and oversees all aspects of the publication.

editor – An editor is the ‘boss’ of a newspaper and is ultimately responsible for what is published.

copywriting – Copywriting is the act or occupation of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. 

newscaster – A news presenter – also known as a newsreader, newscaster, anchorman or anchorwoman, news anchor or simply an anchor – is a person who presents news during a news program on TV, radio or the Internet.

broadcast journalist – often requires that you report on recent events, such as catastrophes or political news.

Writer – A writer is a person who uses written words in different writing styles and techniques to communicate ideas.

Editorial assistant – Editorial Assistants provide support through all stages of publication for books, journals, magazines, websites and newsletters.
