Project 4 ideas

FIRST IDEA

My first idea is to write a hardcore band set list and play a gig with Rhys and Kieran. The reason I want to do this is so that we have more practice time to write our setlist for our band and be able to start playing gigs at the end of this project. Im also already planning to setup a gig with my friends to start this band fully.

The reason its important for us to do this is because we need the practice rooms to be able to write together and me and Kieran won’t be here next year so were gonna try write everything during this project and then it won’t be so bad when we can’t practice as much since we will have out setlist done.

I have previously wrote hardcore with other people before but the guitarist ended up moving to Sheffield so we couldn’t continue it so this time I’m hoping for it to continue and we get to play gigs outside of college after this project

SUNAMI

Sunami are a beatdown/heavy hardcore band from San Jose California with four members that being Josef Alfonso (vocals) , Mike Durrett (guitar) , Theo Dominguez (bass) and Benny Eissmann (drums). They started this band out as a very short term project which they considered a joke band prior to the pandemic in 2019.

They inspire my playing and writing quite a lot as I like how there songs are structured and the drum parts are really nice and have made it so benny is one of if not my favourite drummer. Learning parts of there songs have helped me a lot with double kick and writing hardcore.

This is my favourite song by them , the reason for the is because it feels like it has everything and the intro gets you going instantly.

SPEED

“The first mission was to be a band that were serious about hardcore, and to put it on people’s radar again,” says Jem. “We wanted people who have either fallen out of it, or who have been waiting for it, or who have no idea about it, to realise that this is something that’s sick.”

I think one of the best things about speed is how much groove they have which is the main thing that I take inspiration from them for.

OUTTA POCKET

Leo: Yeah, I could be saying some gibberish and I’ll  listen to the recording and I’ll make some kind of word that fits into that melody.

Chris: We’ll record the instrumental part. Then, Leo would go home or in the car and he would write the lyrics, and we’ll figure out the placement for it.

Leo: We do our music mostly on what we feel.

Outta pocket inspired me a lot when it comes to hardcore , it isn’t as heavy as a lot of other hardcore bands but it has a lot of energy and influences from beatdown and punk.

SECOND IDEA

My 2nd idea is to record an EP and release it to streaming platforms such as Spotify and band camp. The reason this is something id be willing to do is because college has the equipment to be able to get a good recording of drums which I won’t be able to record anywhere else.

I have never released anything before or properly recorded (with mics on the drums except the one time with Evan for the Christmas song.) The only recording ive ever done really is just using phones so this will be a new and interesting thing to do.

Revealing your debut through an EP is a great way to announce yourself onto the scene. If you have a few songs recorded already, then this is your chance to get them out there and build hype around your songs.

As your EP will be a lot shorter than an album, you don’t need to worry about writing and recording 10 or so songs – you can just focus on nailing 4 or 5 tracks. Because of this, you’ll also be able to cut down studio time, production costs, instrument hire and every other fee that comes with creating your music.

“Since you’re putting these songs on the same release, aim for a consistent style. You may also want to have recurring themes in your lyrics to tie the songs together. The songs on an EP should feel like they belong together. Otherwise, you might as well release them as singles. Try to write at least seven songs. Then, pick the best songs to go on your EP. Your fans will be way more impressed by a brief collection of incredible songs than a big one packed with filler tracks. So when deciding on the final tracklisting, focus on quality over quantity.”

Choosing to release a single before an EP is an effective way to keep your audience engaged, and an even better way to tweak and refine your release and promotion strategy. The more singles you put out, the more you get a feel for your audience and can adjust your strategy accordingly.

THIRD IDEA

My 3rd idea is to help Rhys with writing and recording some post hardcore songs. I would do this because Id like to write post hardcore and we will be able to release the recordings and be able to get gigs if we decided to continue it after the project is over.

Static dress

A band steeped in mystery, every bit as cryptic as they are talented, Static Dress have quickly become mainstays in the UK scene and wider alternative scene globally. Post-hardcore revivalists, their effortless blend of modern sounds with equally nostalgic techniques and motifs has led to them quickly climbing the ranks to become one of the genre’s biggest acts in recent memory, with few rivalling what they’ve achieved in the same time. From the project’s inception, frontman Olli Appleyard has maintained that this is more than just a band; it’s a work of art.

Dead lights

https://themusic.com.au/reviews/deadlights-the-uncanny-valley/jSuVgYCDgoU/26-05-21

t’s an album dealing with multiple possible futures and what the generations after us will experience, on global and personal levels. While the album isn’t some authority or expert on these matters, it does try to convey how a multitude of issues – climate change, apathy, technology – will aid in the downfall of humanity

Poison the well

“POISON THE WELL were formed in 1998 in Florida, USA. They debuted with the 1999 The Opposite Of December and managed to share the stage with bands like DEFTONES, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, CULT OF LUNA and HATEBREED. This album is their fourth full-length album, the follow up to 2003’s You Come Before You and if I am not mistaken their first through Ferret Music”

These are some bands that Rhys would want to take inspiration for the post hardcore songs , so if I was to do this idea with him I would listen to a lot of these bands songs to get a better idea on what exactly he wants to write.
