For my fmp I willl be doing a hardcore beatdown band with Rhys Kieran and 2 others outside of college we are aiming to do 8 songs and a 4 song ep. The reason we’re doing this is because we want to be able to start playing gigs outside of college and in the local hardcore scene.
The genre is beatdown which is a sub genre of hardcore punk that started in the mid 90s known for focusing on being really heavy , having slow temp riffs and breakdowns , low tunings , and aggressive vocals and drums. Beatdown takes inspiration from genres such as hip hop , thrash and chugging that is compared to slam. The main priority in beatdown is to write that people wanna move to.
The research I and others need to do are things such as listening to hardcore and beatdown bands that we like and want to take inspiration from also learning parts of songs or even the whole song to learn how they make it sound how they do , I think learning tabs makes it easier to understand how to write like that.
We need to look at techniques used by them bands such as palm muting, pinch harmonics, cymbal chokes , double kick , timing , triplets and half time. Learning how to do these things then practicing to improve ours skills.
The way I’m gonna improve my drumming to help with this project are practicing to a metronome while playing double kick to improve my control and speed on it. I wanna practice more complex fills so I’ll practice them to a metronome too , as well as practicing changing sub divisions to it. I wanna start being more creative in my writing and song structures and the way I’m trying to achieve that is by listening to other bands that I like the writing style of or the structure of the songs and ill try write my own drums using the structure such as verse , chorus , verse , build up, chorus, breakdown. In this genre the verses are like the groove sections then choruses are like aggressive and heavy.
To record the ep we will have to research the different ways we can do things and what will be best for us for example the positions of the mics and making sure it doesn’t bleed into the other mics. Rhys is the one who knows the most about recording and mixing so its mainly his side of the project but I will be there learning from him and ill be doing my own research and maybe I could end up helping him a little just with suggestions and stuff like that.
Technique I need to practice my double kick more by doing things such as playing su divisions and sheet music with more complicated double kick patterns. I also need to work on techniques such as ankle , heel toe and swivel i can do this by researching videos , during my drum lessons and practice at home. Iām gonna do some research for setting up my double kick and finding the perfect settings for me.

Perfomance
I chose Impunity outbreak 2024 set , the reason for this is its my favourite set from them that I’ve seen and they covered a song by six ft ditch (March of the SFD) who are one of my biggest inspirations for the beatdown band were doing.

Another live set I’m choosing is torture at FYA fest which was held at the Orlando warehouse in Orlando FL , which is an amazing venue especially for hardcore allowing the whole room to open up into a massive pit.

Interview/carrer
I chose to do long goodbye at outbreak for the interview since I thought it was interesting and how they went about writing music and coming up with the band name and stuff as well as what they used to listen to together.
