For our task 2 on our final major project our task was to create a makeup look from the performing arts production of peter pan. For this task we had to pick a character each from the characters peter pan, tinker bell, lost boys , pirates, Wendy, Captain hook, Smee.
Wendy darlings untold story
The performing arts production of peter pan is the story of peter pan however there is a twist where all the good character’s are bad and the bad character’s are good.
Pitch and proposal
For our final major project we was firstly tasked with creating a Pitch and proposal of what we want our looks to look like. For my pitch for theatre makeup I spoke about why I chose the character tinker bell and what makeup look I will be creating.
For my pitch and proposal I think it went well as I spoke about everything i wanted to talk about in regards to my theatre makeup look.
My look
For my look I have decided to create the character tinker bell. I have decided to create the character Tinker bell as Tinker bell is a character I am familiar with and I had many ideas on how I can create my version of tinker bell with still having aspects of the original Tinker bell.
Tinkerbell
Tinker bell is a character from the film/ production of peter pan. Tinkerbell is a fairy who accompanies peter pan to never land. Tinkerbell is known as being a really caring and is known as a tinker meaning she makes things.
Tinkerbell- 1953- in the 1953 film of peter pan its an animated film where tinker bell is seen as a very small fairy who has a green dress made from leaf’s. Tinkerbell is also seen as very sparkly and has very glowy skin which I will take into consideration when creating my version of tinker bell.
2003 peter pan
In the 2003 live action version of peter pan tinker bell is seen as having very pale glowy skin giving her a magical look. Tinkerbell looks a bit different in this film as her hair is a more messy bun rather then a neat bun. Tinker bell is seen wearing a dress made from leaf’s and vines as tinker bell is a fairy who makes things. Tinker bells makeup looks very natural with very glowy skin with a bit of blush and bronzer as well as mascara and eyeliner to make her eyes stand out more.
My Tinker bell look
When creating my Tinker bell look I had to take into consideration theatre lighting as the makeup has to be 1 or 2 shades darker then the models skin tone as in the theatre lighting it appears the right shade. As well as this when creating theatre makeup the contour has to be a bit stronger so it appears more noticable. When creating theatre makeup makeup artist would use eyeliner to make the eyes appear bigger as it is to be seen from far away.
The images above is an image that i got from google of what theatre makeup looks like. On the image the eyes appear bigger by using white and black eyeliner as well as fake eyelashes. On the image the lips appear darker and the skin looks heavier, this is done to ensure the makeup is seen from far away.
Theatre Makeup Artist
Tinker bell makeup
When going into creating the Tinker bell makeup look i researched ideas of Tinker bell makeup that i liked. When researching I liked the image below as i love how the eyes really stand out with the eyeliner and green eyeshadow. I also love how the skin looks flawless and rally glowy which is what i want to create in my makeup look.
When researching Tinker bell makeup ideas i came across the image below of a beautiful eye look. I loved this eye look as i love how the green blends so well with the yellow, I also love this image because i love the glitter in the inner corner and the white eyeliner as it really makes the eyes stand out.
My makeup look
When creating my Tinker bell makeup look I wanted to make the eyes stand out on my look as I wanted to give the look a magical look to it. I created this by using glitter as glitter gives a magical look as when the lights hit it its very shiny looking which is what I wanted to achieve as tinker bell is a fairy.
My assessment
Makeup
When I did my assessment I started of with cleansing toning and moisturising my models skin. My model has sensitive skin so I ensured I used a products that are suitable for sensitive skin. After I prepped the skin I moved onto matching the foundation shade. When finding a foundation shade I ensured that the foundation was 2 shades darker than my models skin tone. After I blended the foundation I moved onto concealer to brighten my models under eyes and cover any redness. I applied the concealer under my models eyes my models forehead and on any redness. After that i then moved onto cream bronzer. I applied the cream bronzer to the top of my models cheek bones following the top of the ear. After the cream bronzer was fully blended I then moved onto the cream blush where I applied it to my models cheek bones to add colour to my models face. After that I then added powder to my models face to set the base. I then moved onto powder bronzer where I applied it to the top of my models cheek bones. I then moved onto blush where I added it to the cheek bones and on my models nose. After I did the base I moved onto the eyeshadow and eyebrows, I first started with the eyebrows where I used an eyebrow pencil and lightly filled in my models eyebrows as I didn’t want them to be too thick. After i filled in my models eyebrows I moved onto eyeshadow, I first started with a nude shade on the crease of the eye after that was blended I moved onto a brown shade. After the brown was blended I moved onto the green where I used concealer first then I added I glittery green shadow to my models eye. After I applied the glittery eyeshadow I then added eyeliner and eyelashes to make my models eyes look bigger. When applying the eyeliner I struggled with making the eyeliner even however I used the mirror to help me and I think I achieve an even eyeliner look. lastly I moved onto my models lips where I firstly over lined my models lips with a pink lip liner, I then filled in my models lips with a pink lip stick.
Hair
To achieve the tinker bell hair I used a doughnut to create the bun shape. When creating the hair I decided to do a half up half down bun look as my model has short hair and half up hair down worked better on her hair. I first started with getting the middle parting I started with using hair mouse and hair spray to make my models hair sleek. I then used comb to get all my models hair into a pony tail. After my models hair was in a pony tail then put a doughnut onto my models hair and then covered he doughnut with my models hair and secured it with elastics and hair pins. After i did the bun I secured the hair wit hair spray.
overall I am happy with my look as I was able to achieve a theatre Tinker bell makeup look. next time I would improve blending the foundation down my models neck as the foundation wasn’t fully blended. I would also add more glitter to my models skin as I did add much highlighter to my models skin and as my look is Tinker bell glitter would be well suited for this look.
The performance makeup
Apart of our project we was told to create the makeup on the performing arts students for there production of peter pan. My character is tinker bell, when I was doing my characters makeup I made sure to always communicate and ask my model if she was happy with how the makeup feels and how it looks as she will be performing on stage with the makeup and has to feel comfortable. When doing my models makeup my model said that she has quite oily skin especially in the t zone, I ensured that I applied a lot of powder to ensure the makeup stayed on during the performance. Overall I was happy with how the makeup turned out as it was suitable for theatre as my models eyes looked bigger and the foundation was 2 shades darker. I would improve the contour as it wasn’t as dark as i would like to ensure its visible from stage. I would also improve the eyebrows as I didn’t have an eyebrow gel so the eyebrows wasn’t sticking up and staying how I would like them to, next time I will ensure I have all the products I need. After I did my models makeup I ensured she felt comfortable with the makeup and if it feels ok and if it feels like it will last the performance. My models was very happy with the makeup and said she felt really comfortable. As well as makeup I created the signature tinker bell bun using bobbles hair spray and a comb and hair brush. I was very happy with how the hair turned out as it looked really neat and sleek.
