Brief– For project 5 our brief is to create 3 looks stimulus expression, theatre, fashion.
context
For our first look on our final major project we was given the task to create a stimulus expression look using an aspect of body pain in our look. For our stimulus expression look we was given 6 words to choose from for our look those where environment, mental health, midnight, nature, celestial, fire. For my look I chose nature as I had many ideas that i could do that is nature inspired.
For our assignment we where first given the task of doing a pitch and proposal. For the pitch proposal we where given 4 days to create a power point of our 3 looks we wanted to create and design a mood board, body chart, face chart and hair chart for each look. When designing the stimulus expression look we where given 6 categories environment, mental health, midnight, nature, celestial and fire. For my look I decided to create a nature inspired look as I love nature and I like how with nature there’s so many different textures which I wanted to achieve in a look.
My pitch proposal power point
When doing my pitch proposal I firstly talked about what look I am doing and why I chose the look. I then spoke about the makeup look I have chosen to create and why I decided to create the look in that way. I then spoke about hair and outfit choice and why I chose it for my look.
For my pitch proposal I think it went well as I spoke in detail about my look and why I chose the look I am creating. I think I could have improved talking more about each slide as I went through the power point quite fast.
My look
For my stimulus expressions look I am going to create a mother nature inspired makeup that’s for a magazine. I have decided to create this look as mother nature controls nature and I thought with this look I could get really creative as I can create my idea of what mother nature looks like to me. As well as this I wanted to create a texture to my look as with nature there’s a lot of different textures which I would love to incorporate in my look.
Research
Magazine makeup looks
Magazine makeup looks are usually makeup looks that you don’t see on a everyday basis. Magazine makeup looks are usually very eye catching so that they look appealing and they will be bought. When doing my makeup look I wanted my look to be very eye catching and be unique.
Magazine makeup looks are usually using different textures and patterns to be eye catching to people. When doing my makeup look I wanted to take that into consideration and create a lot of texture and different colours in my look.
When doing my makeup I was inspired by magazine makeup that had different textures and colours that are creating a pattern.
I love this makeup look as I love how the flowers look on the eyes and how the eyes appear heavy. I also love how they made the flowers go into the eyebrows as I think it makes look look complete. From this look I also love how the skin looks and how it looks so clear and glows with the gloss and the freckles.
When looking at magazine looks I loved this as I love how they incorporated the models hair to the look as how it adds texture to the makeup look. I also love how the makeup isn’t perfect and how the lips look smudged as it gives the look a wind swepped look. I also love how the skin looks so clear and glowy.
When doing my makeup look I wanted to incorporate some of theses aspects to my look with the textures and colours.
Mother nature
Mother nature is a Greek goddess who is a personification of nature, mother natures role is controlling natural disruptions such as earthquakes and tornadoes. Mother nature is seen as this beautiful goddess who represents nature.
Mother nature is seen as this beautiful goddess who gives us amazing opportunities. When creating my look I am going to take into consideration the beauty of mother nature and create this beautiful look.
When creating my look I looked at different paintings and textures that artists create in paintings.
I was inspired by this painting as I love how all the colours blend together seamlessly and the textures on the painting. I love how its not perfect but that’s the beauty in the painting which is what I wanted in my makeup look.
The history behind body paint
body paint is a form of art used by painting onto the skin. When body painting people make beautiful designs and paint onto the skin.
Research says body painting first started around 400,000 years ago for hunting and gathering tribes in Zambia. Body painting was firstly used in tribes as a identification and a way of artistry. Some people believe that body painting was the first form of art.
When body painting tribes would usually use chalk, ash, clay even mud.
my makeup look
For my look I have decided to create a green and yellow contoured look on the nose cheek bones and forehead. I am going to create this by using face and body paints. I am going to be adding fake moss and flowers to my look to give a 3D effect I will also be using fullers earth to part of my models face and neck to create a cracked stone look to represent rocks and mountains.
products and pricing
I am going to be using snazaroo green and yellow face paints as after using different face paints I find snazaroo the easiest to use. I have decided to use green and yellow as I find those colours blend the best together. As well as this in nature you see a lot of green and yellow in flowers. I will also be using a white face paint for the eye lashes and the eyebrows as it will give a very nature look.
Fake moss and flowers- For my makeup look I will be adding fake moss and flowers to give a 3D effect to my look. I will be adding different coloured flowers as you see many different coloured flowers in nature.
fullers earth – I will be adding grey fullers earth to my models skin to create a cracked skin look and to represent earth. I will be creating this effect by making the fullers earth and adding it to areas of the skin where i want the skin to look cracked.
My hair look
The hair look I have decided to create is a wavy hair look that has a lot of volume. I have chosen to create this hair as when looking at pictures of mother nature there hair was wavy and had a lot of volume which is something I want to create in my look to make my look look orphentic. For my look I am going to add some flowers into my models hair to make my look look complete.
My model
before doing my models makeup I ensured that they weren’t allergic to anything and have had a patch test before I did their makeup.
when choosing a model for my look I wanted a model who had long hair as i wanted there hair to be down and long. As well as this I wanted a model with soft features as i think it will look good for my look.
Assessment
When creating my makeup look I wanted to create texture to my look as nature has a lot of textures to it and it can be very unpredictable. I firstly started with using hair spray and hair mouse to slick the front of my models hair back in a middle part. I then starting with fullers earth and applying it to the forehead and on my models hair. I made the fullers earth by getting a bowl and adding a tea spoon at a time of fullers earth till I felt I had enough and then adding a little bit of water at a time till I had the consistency I wanted. When I was creating this look I wasn’t really sure where I wanted to place the fullers earth however as I was applying it I felt it looked good on my models hair and top of the head. I felt the fullers earth looked best there as it made my models hair look flatter and added texture. After applying the fullers earth I started using snazaroo face paints in yellow and green and a small flat brush and creating brush strokes to my models neck. When using this technique I found that it made my look look unique and added texture. After adding yellow and green strokes I then went on to add blue and brown strokes to incorporate different colours seen in nature. After that I then added some fullers earth to my models neck as I felt like the neck looked really flat however when I added the fullers earth it added more texture. After that I then added some more strokes of face paint onto my models face to make the look all go well together. After that I then added some moss to parts of my models face using pros aide and a sponge.
After I did the makeup I then thought about the hair I firstly tried the head piece I made however I felt that the head piece looked to much do I decided to add a small fake sun flower in my models hair to finish the look.
www- When doing my look I think I did well with creating texture to my look which is what I wanted this look to be about the different textures in nature and how mother nature represents nature
reflections
Overall I was happy with my look however I think I could have improved bringing the face paint further down my models neck and on my models arms. I think this would look better as it would have made the look look complete. As well as this when I was looking back on the photos of my look I noticed that one of the eyebrows looks a bit smudged so next time I would have made sure the eyebrows look neat.
