Now I am at the end of my project, it is time to look back on what I’ve done and where I have gotten.
First of all where I started this project off. This year at college hasn’t been the greatest as far as the written work is concerned, my digital space has lacked quite a bit on several occasions but that is where I wanted this project to stand out from the rest hence why I have put much more of an effort into my digital portfolio. As far as production is concerned I was already at a decently good standard before I commenced this project however there was much room to improve.
The planning stage went well as a whole. As informal as my presentation was, I believe I conveyed a very clear and understandable image of what my project was about and what that entailed. I gave an insight into the genres I would be producing and laid out my aims and objectives in a good manner and I didn’t actually have too many questions at the end of my presentation because I covered so much of what I would be doing. The proposal as well was laid out and executed to a high standard I think. There is plenty of detail inside of the proposal as to exactly what I was going to do for this project as well as a good list of sources to commence my research. The only real downfall in this stage was the planning, especially in the presentation as I had no idea whatsoever of my time frame which I have learnt is probably my biggest weakness.
The research I have done for this project has gone excellently. I really feel like I have not only produced a good quality of research, but I have also learnt a great deal from the research that I did. My main focus in research was learning drum synthesis, creating my own drums has been the biggest success of this project and it wouldn’t have been possible without the research and practice that I did. Additionally I have learnt a lot more about the main synth I use, Serum, as well as another synth called sakura. And on top of that I delved into the worlds of reverb and distortion to try learn more about how these effects worked because I was rather clueless and now my knowledge has expanded. Overall I feel really proud of myself and the amount I have learnt this project from my research.
The production has also gone very well. I have produced 3 professional quality dubstep songs which don’t sound out of place whatsoever when placed next to long standing classics of the genre. They have received a deal of positive feedback from friends and other producers and most importantly I am over the moon with how good they sound. And the fact that 90% of all the drums in these songs I synthesized attests to how much I have learnt these past couple of months. Most importantly these songs have a unique sound to them which I can really call my own which is just amazing.
I feel I could’ve maybe done more work this project to diversify what I have done, and documented more production, but the quality of work I produced is of a very high standard at least in my opinion.
In conclusion, this has been an extremely successful project leaving me in a very good position moving onwards in the world of music. I feel much more confident in my production ability and my knowledge has expanded which was the aim of this project so I can say I have successfully reached the main aim of this project.
