Task 1 – Each member of the band collaborated on the PowerPoint, we each had individual slides in the PowerPoint about ourselves as band members plus additionally a few slides which were collaborative – i.e., slides about safety etc. and a slide talking about our song which we did for the project – the two of us in a reggae style. Each member also appropriately completed their work on the PowerPoint.
We were next set a task to complete analysis of the 3 genres being assessed inside of the eat sleep project – the genres being reggae, punk, and indie. I listened to the different songs set and performed analysis on them, furthering mine and my groups knowledge of the ins and outs of the genres.
Task 2 – After learning about the genres being assessed inside of this project, we then were tasked with converting a song (originally 2 but there were complications) from one genre into another. Work in the rehearsal studio was originally quite difficult due to there being many members in the band but everything got sorted out in the end.
My band collectively chose jazz into reggae and the song we chose was Just the Two of us by Grover Washington and Bill Withers. The writing process of the song was to try and replicate the structure of the song but with a reggae feel. Most importantly using the same iconic chords to make sure that the song is recognizable. The song was slowed down and the instruments were played in the style of reggae. To be more specific, the guitar part
After the song writing process was completed, we rehearsed it to a level we were very comfortable with before performing it on camera to conclude the project. The performance went very well for everyone and even other groups liked our arrangement of the song.
Unfortunately, there was no studio work, but the end product was something we were all proud of.
