My first face chart was standard theatre makeup with dirt powder to create my character of a student that was in a spell accident in the “Wicked” universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This look would include a creme pallete base, dirt powder and a subtle red lipstick to make the lips look dry- as if the student has been worn down from practicing spells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also designed a headdress that I wanted to make with annotations describing the effect it would have on the overall look. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I again decided to create a full character design with annotations,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did like this design. However I thought back to my first year when I did a standard theatre makeup for my final major project and I think that look was the reason my grade went down. This year I am determined to get my target grade of a distinction so I knew that I needed to change my design and make it more advanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I took inspiration from the makeup from the theatre production of “Cabaret”. The makeup from this show is very expressive and extravagant because Cabaret is set in the 1930’s. My mood board consists of six images I found on Pinterest based around stage eyes ( to link my design back to theatre makeup) 1930s style makeup and makeup from performances of Cabaret. The picture furthest left is a screenshot from @hashkiveinu on TikTok, a performer in the orchestra of the Broadway production of Cabaret, the middle three pictures are performers of the Ukrainian performances of Cabaret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I tried four different designs, two with and two without dirt powder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This look was okay, but it was a bit too similar to one of the makeup looks on my mood board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the same look but with dirt powder. I learnt that I definitely needed to have dirt powder but having the mustache (drawn on with liquid eyeliner) wouldn’t fit the character of a student. For this reason I redesigned the makeup without the mustache to see if it would be better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This design was definitely better, so I added dirt powder to what became my final face chart design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the hair I am planning on simply back combing my models hair, but I made a mood board with the specific style I am going for based on the Scene and Goth fashion subcultures, I found the pictures on Pinterest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my costume mood board based on the Shiz University uniform featured in the \u201cWicked\u201d movie as well as artists aprons, the picture of the uniforms is from the playbill website, the picture of the students is from Google Images and both apron pictures are from Pinterest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I plan on either making my own apron because I like the cartoony effect the buttons give to the aprons in the larger photo, or asking a tutorial from the art department if I can borrow an apron for authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was my final character design and I think it is a big improvement on my initial design and my previous final major project look. It follows the same narrative of a student that was in a spell accident but the makeup gives the character more of an attitude and personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To add my own costume element to this part of my final major project, I designed an apron for my model to wear. I found some emerald green buttons to reference the “Wicked” source material and some red high heel charms that also reference “Wicked” as the ruby slippers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also wanted to make some potion bottles for my model to hold and have in the front pocket of the apron, here is a concept sketch of the pattern I would create out of paper:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By creating these potion bottles, I can create more things that represent the source material (“Wicked”) as well as represent my character’s personality.
