Context:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My third look is a collaborative piece of Special Effects and Editorial. This look will be a smokey liner editorial look with sculpt gel special effects features that will require me to communicate a lot with my tutors and other students- something I struggled to do last year and aim to improve on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My look is inspired by “Pretty Special Effects” and editorial pieces that I found online during my research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my notes from a 1-1 tutorial with my tutor, I was told to research Met Gala looks as well as the makeup for Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video. While these were good points for my research, I didn’t feel particularly inspired by this because there wouldn’t be enough time to contact people who could create these prosthetics and have the prosthetics created after I had completed planning for my assessments that would happen before this one. I used my spider diagram an adapted my first face chart design based on wanting to specialise in more realistic and gory special effects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Problem Solving:<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the first design for my face chart for assessment 3:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think that if I had more time to adapt my look, practice and refine my look then this would have most likely stayed as my final design. The problem came when I was looking over my designs I realised that the look would work more efficiently with a flat mould, this was a problem because I do not have a flat mould and couldn’t get one made in time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To fix this problem, I redesigned my look and included a smaller wound instead that I could create with sculpt gel. This look will still be a challenge for me because I have never used sculpt gel before and I will need a refresher class before my assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As another form of research, I found the account @scortezzbeauty on Tik Tok who is a professional special effects makeup artist in the film and TV industry. Their video taught me how to mix together silicone sculpt gel and apply it correctly. I also learnt that I would need to use IPA to add colour to the sculpt gel because alcohol based products work best on silicone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To complete my research for this assessment, I practiced using sculpt gel to create a wound on my hand.

I first used separate tools to scrape part 1 2 and 3 of the silicone onto a palette. It is important that I use the same tool because if I do there is a risk that the product in the packaging could be activated and unusable.

I then used another tool to mix all three products together when I was ready to apply the sculpt gel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I then applied a thin layer of sculpt gel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the sculpt gel began to set I used the same to that I used to apply the sculpt to create the effect of an open wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I used IPA and an illustrator palette to add colour to inside the wound with the mottling method (adding IPA to the skin and adding colour afterwards). To finish this would I would use a stipple sponge to add fake blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FEEDBACK:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After creating my wound, my tutor gave me some feedback to use for my assessment. She said that I should pre colour the silicone and make sure that I blend out the edges of the silicone a lot more. I also learnt that I should apply the sculpt gel first so the it sticks properly, if the silicone was plied over a powdered base then it might not stick right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
