TUTOR FEEDBACK:
After my assessment, my tutor said that I did a fantastic job. Another of my tutors said that my work was very much up to standard and that there was “nothing to criticise” after my additional adjustments. My tutors agreed that the depth of my cake slice was the best I had done and that the wig was a lot better with the extra long hair at the back.
PERSONAL REFLECTION:
Overall I was extremely happy with my look and I am very proud of myself. I think that I really achieved my goal of adapting and learning new skills in illusion makeup and prosthetic making. If I were to do this project again, I would try to create more costume designs such as ballroom gowns with sweet designs. I wasn’t able to use my cake pop headband because it kept breaking and wouldn’t fit on the head because of how far forward the swirl began, so if I were to do this assessment again I would try to adapt my wig designs to more accurately include a headpiece as well. I am glad my prosthetics worked as well as they did but I am aware that I will need to make more for when this look goes in the summer show. Looking back I also realised that I forgot to use a steamer on the wig; this would have been beneficial because it would have tamed as lot of the fly-aways, but I didn’t mind having the wig look messy because I thought it fit the theme of Gluttony. If I were to do this again I would also get a different photographer; I had a photography student take my photos and was told I would have them within a few days, but I ended up waiting over two weeks for my photos and only got them a few days before my theory deadline which stressed me out a lot.
Adapting for runway:
This Avant Garde look will be featured in the college fashion show this year. Given everything I have learnt during this part of the final project I have an idea of how I will adapt my final look for the runway. The first way is to sew a second layer to the plain brown side of the train so that it has extra stability and is less flimsy of the runway. The second way I will adapt this look is to have small clasps at the ends of the train and on the sleeve cuffs similar to how some bridal dresses have small elements to make the dress more manageable after a ceremony. By having the small clasps on the train and sleeve cuffs i can make sure that the train doesn’t drag on the floor when it isn’t on the runway, this will eliminate any tripping risks to both the wearer and other people in college but will also limit the amount of dirt the train picks up during the day of the fashion show. I drew an example of what this will look like:

SMART TARGET:
SPECIFIC:
Consider the results of planning (e.g. the wig being too small because of sewing the wadding in) and ensure that nothing affects the final result
MEASURABLE:
This target could be achieved by writing out my thought process and analysing it to make myself aware of different problems that could arise.
ATTAINABLE:
This target is definitely achievable because designing is a very big interest and hobby of mine. It is something I enjoy doing, which makes me more determined to develop my skills.
RELEVANT:
This is relevant to me because costume design is a big interest of mine and something I would enjoy pursuing as a career.
TIME BASED:
This target would be achieved over the course of a few weeks or months, it would depend on the current project and how long it would take. Hand made costumes could take anywhere between a few weeks and a few months whereas smaller projects like making small scale character dolls can take a few days.
