TUTOR FEEDBACK:
After my assessment, my tutor said that I did an excellent job. She said that the wig looked natural and the makeup was good. She also liked my head dress. There were a few points for improvement; some of the body paint had gaps where you could see the skin, the bones had cracked slightly from too many thick layers of paint and the face paint had slightly smudged. These were all small problems that either could be fixed, or had an affect that still worked for the look.
PERSONAL EVALUATION:
Overall, I was also very satisfied with my look. I agree with my points for improvement too- I fixed the gaps in the body paint with my face paint/ sponges/ brushes before my pictures, but there wasn’t a lot I could do for the face because the white had smudged with the yellow and it would only make the paint crack. I should have made the makeup around the mouth more symmetrical too, which is another thing my tutor pointed out. For Day Of The Dead makeup, symmetry is a very important factor. But overall I think I did a very good job.
If I were to do this assessment again, I would try to look into different cultures first before deciding on just one so that I could really think through all my designs. For this specific culture I would try to add more of a traditional day of the head costume, such as incorporating the traditional flowers onto the body and looking into the traditional outfits worn during the celebration to make my look fully themed to the Day Of The Dead.
SMART TARGETS:
1.
SPECIFIC:
Research at least three cultures before finalising a design.
MEASURABLE:
This will be easily measured, as stated in specific, I will research at least three cultures.
ATTAINABLE:
It is definitely possible to attain these goals, I know that this is achievable because I have had to create three looks throughout the final project process.
RELEVANT:
This is relevant to me as a student and aspiring industry professional because this will allow me to continually develop my skills and abilities.
TIME-BASED:
I would follow this target for several months and re-evaluate my progress afterwards.
2.
SPECIFIC:
Practice the tools even if I feel I am familiar with them (e.g. airbrush) so that there is less of a chance of running into problems during my assessments.
MEASURABLE:
To measure this, I will practice with a lot more products and tools so that I can have skills in lots of different techniques. This will help me in the industry because having more skills will make me more employable.
ATTAINABLE:
I would most likely be able to achieve this goal because being at college allows me to have lots of experimentation opportunities.
RELEVANT:
This is relevant to me because I would like to have lots of makeup skills for any potential career paths I may go down.
TIME BASED:
I think I will be able to achieve this goal over the course of a few months, the first few months would be to learn the skills and the next few would be to adapt the skills. I would re-evaluate after this amount of time to see how my skills improve.
3.
SPECIFIC:
Don’t forget to have pictures of my station before/ after my assessments so that anyone marking my work doesn’t have to rely on a description of my station
MEASURABLE:
This can be achieved if I have small reminders at my station, possibly as sticky notes or reminders on my phone.
ATTAINABLE:
This target is definitely achievable because it is a small task at the end of each assessment.
RELEVANT:
This is relevant to me because it shows examiners that I know about health and safety in my exams and in general. It would also show that I know the importance of a clean station when it comes to health and safety, which again, makes me more employable in the long run.
TIME BASED:
I could do this at the end of an assessment.
