Personal Promotion:

After researching various business cards, I designed my own over the course of a few lessons. I initially had a lot of issues managing Adobe Photoshop but once I learned how to work the site with my tutor’s (Paul) help it became much easier.

My Process:

My first design was quite cluttered. I wanted to incorporate every aspect of what I would want to do if I ever did freelance work but I learnt that doing this would make my design messy and unprofessional.
When I was doing my research I thought that the most eye-catching designs has black backgrounds. I tried to do this to see if it made my design any better. The only issue I came across were that when the background for the face paints was deleted, the shadows were still there and couldn’t be taken away without parts of the face paints being taken away as well. For this reason, I decided to keep a white background.
Once I removed the blood drops from the top of the design, the shadows of the face paints were still very prominent so the background was changed to white.

With Paul’s help, I was able to use Adobe Illustrator to add a border to the font. I did this because the back of my business card also has this border to make it stand out against the background. I decided that I wanted the font on the front to match the font on the back to make sure that I kept the same structure and professionalism throughout the card.
To finish the front of the card, I changed the writing to say “SFX Makeup” to prevent any confusion and make it obvious what I offer.
I wanted to keep the back of the card simple because I didn’t want the overall card to start to look messy. Even so, I felt that this was to simple so I had it adapted to what I thought would be fitting.
I added the same image to the back of the card and added the border around the text to make it easier to read against the background image. Doing this is what inspired me to ask for the same border around the font on the front of the card.

My final business card would look like this:

I am very satisfied with how my business card turned out. I also liked how face paints were the main focus in the design given that I would probably mainly offer to do face paints if I did freelance work. When I am able to get my own face paints, I will make a separate social media account and post my work on there. I will also adapt my business card when that happens to include any social media accounts that I use for this work.
